I guess if you want to prove that a union is good for business the only place someone would likely find that proof would be from a professor at UC Berkley. If that doesn't speak for itself, I don't know what does!

Once again you show your lack of knowledge about Continental General Tire politics, much less that of any other big business company, and lack of knowledge about everything that is the IAM. In case you didn't notice before it closed, Mayfield General tire was falling apart at the seams The cost of even maintaining the facility was unbearably expensive, so thanks to NAFTA it was way cheaper to build new in mexico and the cheap labor sure is nice for them. However funny that Continental General Tire has announced they will build a new US manufacturing facility and Kentucky is one of the states they are considering, if the union did them so bad why are they talking about coming back? And on UC berkely, it does speak for itself a short list of alumni goes a lil something like this....

To Former Remington, It's does no good to argue with these simple minded people. None of them have even read Illion or Arkema's contracts. They might have a copy of the IAM constitution, but are not capable of actually setting down and reading it. As far as the contracts go, the Mayfield plant has everything that the contract has. And in some instances, Mayfield has it better. In the constitution, It is like 60 plus pages before they even talk about the members. Everything in the constitution is for and about the union. In the contract everything is to the companies descretion. But yet these "yes" people somehow think if they get a union in plant, they are gonna run it...They think they are gonna keep everything and get even more. They talk about a pension. My goodness, they have a plan they can manage. The mayfield plant allows people to makea decent living, have decent benefits and decent place to work. I guarantee if any of these union people have a better job offer, they would jump ship in a heart beat. The information is out there. it is how one interpets it as to how one should feel. One person said a union is non profit.. See prime example.
Former Remington. You make valid, informed arguements. Stop trying to dumb yourself down to the "yessirs" level. it will only give you a headache.

I own a couple Marlins. Both were made in the New Haven and North Haven Marlin plants before they were shut down. I held a couple of the new Marlin's made by Remington. They are pieces of junk and are not deserving of the Marlin name. They do not even compare to the two true Marlin's that I own. Remington better get their act together. Gun owners are extremely quality oriented when it comes to their firearms. And word gets around quickly when a company is making piss poor rifles.

I planned on picking up a marlin this weekend but after reading this I think I'll stick with my ruger 10/22, it's sad to hear such a well known name and being in Kentucky I'd like to hear quality over quantity and sorry to hear about the work situation it sounds like there is a lot of big heads there, the plant I work at is very respectable and management is great.

Hey curious, you need to do better research. You don't pay union dues if you are laid off when the union is in a plant environment. The international president cannot call a strike for us; that was a lie. It's in the constitution. It takes 2/3 vote from the members of the local. As far as wildcat strikes, most places and probably us will have a no strike clause. Strikes will only be a last resort when contract talks break down for our local. For better education purposes please attend the meeting Monday, August 22nd at 1:00 pm and 7:00 pm at Calvary United Methodist Church at the intersection of hwy 303(Cuba Rd.) and West Tucker Rd. Thank you.
