How many new positions will be created to handle the increase in production at the expanded facility? I'm sick of the BS in ilion and would like to stay with the company. We are not given any info here, so does anyone at the mayfield plant know?

They told us 100 new positions, so far we've probably hired 50 or should i say we have 50 new temps. There's alot of BS here too and it is crazy what they want done in such a short amount of time. Overall i'm still glad to be there and thankful i have a job.

Is your facility union, and whats entry level pay? Sounds like the same hurry hurry situation we have.Does the quality suffer due to the rapid pace like here in ilion?Any info you can provide is greatly appreciated. The BS in ilion is bad,but the taxes in this state is a contributing factor in my relocation thoughts.

No we're not union and we don't want one. Of course they say quality wont suffer but i don't see how it won't. The pay rate depends on what department you are in. The starting rate as a temp for the first 90 days is 10.10 an hour.

I feel we would be better off without a union here, all they do is cause conflict and steal our money. Is 10.10 an hour enough to survive on there.

Have you ever seen the posts in ilion? If you want to have a good laugh check it out.We have some of the dumbest forms of life right here in central new york.

I've looked at the Ilion post a few times when they announced the Marlin shutdown, thats about it. Our cost of living here I'm sure is considerably lower then yours and 10.10 an hour is ok i guess. I know everyone they have hired lately are thrilled to have a job there. In our area the largest manufacturer left the area about 4 years ago, so people are just glad to be working.

I have read some of the posts and saw that a tire manufacturer closed the doors, it must have been a terrible blow to the community. In ilion, remington is the only business that has sustained this community for years. It's too bad that the workers here that keep pushing this union work force, can't see the whole picture. When remington goes, ilion will become a ghost town, because there is nothing else here.I look forward to visiting mayfield possibly this year to see first hand what things are like. Nosing around on the computer has given me some info,it looks like it might be a good place for a new start.

When it boils right down to it we put up with alot of crap like I'm sure you do at illion. Corporate America has took a once quality oriented company and flushed it down the drain. It's all about how much money they can make in the shortest amount of time. Yes management is all about ass kissing to make themselves look good while it is to hell with the rest of us. But the mayfield Paducah area is a decent place to live. Cost of living is not to bad. And yes I have worked a Remington for several years. Not to bad of a place to work as long as you can look over all the brown nosing employees and ass kissing supervisors.

I don't work at Remington so I can't speak about what it's like to work there.$10/hour isn't a fortune by any means but I would imagine that it would go alot farther here in West KY than it does in alot of places. Our cost of living here is extremely low compared to most places. There's no exciting night life like some big cities have, but it's a comfortable place to live. Paducah, which is roughly 30 miles away has a mall with regular mall type stores. Paducah has some level of performance arts...nothing like a very large city might have...but it's pretty nice. When I want to do major shopping (back to school shopping, Christmas shopping) I usually drive to Nashville which is about 2 hours away. All in all, I would recommend giving Mayfield a try. I think you might really like it.

yes everything still sucks here. Some of the new temps are pretty good workers while the others are worthless. And for the union yes we need it and want it but a group of BUTT kissers whine about it. Id be Happy just to get new managment especially someone named(melissa)in front office One of the lowest paying jobs in our area compared to other companies
What Companies would you compare them to in our area? The chicken factory? Theres nothing left. You can't compare us to Calvert plants. And as for a union, if the majority wanted it it would be there. A so called "group of BUTT kissers" alone can't keep it out. If people aren't happy there then leave and find something else...oh wait, there is nothing else.

It is a rough decision. Currently I make 18.45 an hour, but with a mortgage, taxes and a 500.00 a month vehicle payment, it doesnt seem to go far. My wife brings home more than I do but it seems it's always a week to week battle. It's probably just a pipe dream but I would certainly love to get out of New York. For those wishing they had a union, be careful, what you wish for isnt always what it seems. It would most likely be the ass kissers that would be running your union, thenwhere would you be.

I worked for P.A.C.E. It wasnt any different than the UMWA. Just a bunch of lazy asses looking for an excuse to get off their jobs and run around the plant acting like they are on some important mission.

The quality at the Mayfield Remington plant has totally gone down the drain! It's all about how many guns we can get out the back door. It dont seem to matter if they are good guns or not anymore! These are high powered weapons we are making, not cheetos!!

I'm hearing and seeing the same thing. The mayfield plant is not safe and needs to be dealt with. Machines are rigged up half ass to work. People are getting hurt. Chemical messes everywhere. The town is talking about how the plant is hiring like crazy and it's so neat. What the town isn't seeing is the reason is because of a huge turn around. Employees are getting sick and eventually not being able to handle all the health problems and injury risk. I would hate to see the you know who's come in and shut the plant down.
