I agree 100%! I will vote against anyone who supports seat belt laws. It is my business, in my own vehicle alone, if I wear one or not and I never do and won't.

Well since having your drivers llicesne is a privilage and NOT a right the best way to not get ticketed is to just wear your seat belt or simply dont drive. They save lives, plain and simple. IF it was about making money then they would charge court costs to it but its just a $25 fine...its imposed so you will remember to wear it. Why wouldnt you wear one?

Nobody is forcing you to do anything. You dont HAVE to wear it but you can get a ticket if you dont. I had rather wear it and not have to give away $25. Plus It WILL save your life more times than not so in my opinion on pinheads dont wear their seat belt. Why give money away?

I do not use a seatbelt either and refuse. I'll pay the fine so someone can have supper on me rather than to be strapped in a burning car or worse...under water and can't get out. Why do you think they find so many bodies still in cars that run into water? My worst fear is to drown and second is to burn to death. NO THANKS.

That might the most ignorant post I have ever heard on Toipx, and that is saying something. The odds of burning up in your car vs. being thrown though the windshield or banging around in your car are are outrageous. You are not smart at all and I don't believe that you really believe what you posted, instead you just want to sound cool but you don't. You remind me of the fat boy in every class whos butt crack always showed that would always say stupid stuff like you. Where do you hear about "so many" cars that run off in the water and people cant get out because of their seat belt? You dont read or hear about that shit. You are fucking waste to humanity wih your thinking.

Come on man its basically the same thing as forcing you it doesnt take a genius to figure that out its something to give em probable cause and another way for em to get more of our money from the working man it is absolutely communism no doubt!

melberian and charles B, chew on this!!!

Safety Belt Statistics
One out of every five drivers will be involved in a traffic crash this year.

Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death among people age 44 and younger and the number one cause of head and spinal cord injury.

Approximately 35,000 people die in motor vehicle crashes each year. About 50 percent (17,000) of these people could be saved if they wore their safety belts.

More than 90 percent of all motorists believe safety belts are good idea, but less than 14 percent actually use them.

For every one percent increase in safety belt use, 172 lives and close to $100 million in annual injury and death costs could be saved.

Safety belts when used properly reduce the number of serious traffic injuries by 50 percent and fatalities by 60-70 percent.

For maximum protection safety belts should be fastened before traveling any distance or speed. Seventy-five percent of crash deaths and injuries occur within 25 miles of home. More than half of all injury-producing motor vehicle crashes involve low speeds under 40 m.p.h.

Motorists are 25 times are more likely to be killed or seriously injured when they are "thrown clear" than when remain inside their vehicle.

In a 30 m.p.h. collision an unbelted 160 lb. Person can strike another passenger, crash through a windshield and/or slam into the vehicle's interior with a 4,800 lb. force.

Motorists can increase safety belt usage by example and verbal reminders. Nine out of 10 people buckle up when asked.

Safety belt use is one of the best defenses against the unpredictable actions of the drunk driver.

Today over 25 countries around the world have some type of mandatory safety belt law. Results of these laws were measured; usage rate went from 20-25 percent before passage to 60-90 percent after passage.

A common cause of death and injury to children in motor vehicles is being crushed by adults who are not wearing safety belts. On out of four serious injuries to passengers is caused by occupants being thrown into each other.

About 80 percent of all injuries to children in car crashes are injuries to the head, causing brain damage, permanent disfigurement, epilepsy or death.

Of every 100 children who die in motor vehicle crashes at least 80 would survive if they were properly secured in an approved child safety seat or safety belts.

Three out of four families with child safety seats fail to use them correctly. Adults need to follow manufacturer's instructions and secure seats properly before every trip.

An estimated 80 percent of American children area immunized against contagious diseases, but less than 10 percent are properly restrained when riding in a motor vehicle.

Over the years I have heard many news stories where a body or bodies were still in a vehicle found in water. The seconds that they needed to get out could have possibly been used up trying to get the seatbelt unlatched. Two years ago my brothers ex-wife burned to death in a car that had slid off the road and hit a pole trapping her in the car because the seat belt jammed. I will be 67 this May and am not a young child trying to be cute. I was in an accident about twenty years ago and am thankful to this day that I did not have a seatbelt on because it would have killed me as well. The seatbelt attached to the frame of the car through the floor was pulled completely through the bottom. So there are some very good reasons why I will never wear a seatbelt.

Its not about money dingbats its about saving lives. If you dont like it dont drive or just pay the ticket everytime and dont complain. Driving is a privilage and NOT a right like most people think.

I want to tell everyone that thinks seatbelts are bad. Several years ago,I was a volunteer firefighter and got the call to assist with an accident.A car had met a large truck in a curve and the car driver had swerved into the ditch, the car had almost no damage and could have been driven away after being pulled out, but,the driver had not been wearing her seat belt and when the car went into the ditch she was not thrown through the windshield. She was slammed over into the passenger side floorboard and the impact with the bottom of the dash had broken her neck and smashed her face. Had she been wearing a seatbelt she might have been hurt but she would have still been alive.

Read the stats. They dont say they seat belts save lives 100% of the time....but you are far better off to wear one than not to. Your case happens, yes, but it is very RARE compared to the lives that they saved. If you dont wanna wear one thats your pergotive but its not very smart.

I agree I think it should be my choice if I want to wear one or not. But just last year I was involved in a crash where a woman nailed me from the side she tried to speed up and pass an intersection and hit me in the driver side which pushed my van into another truck with me being in the middle my daughter was in passenger side my van was totaled we both had our seatbelts on if not we probly would have been severly injured instead of a few scrapes and bruises... And I'm thankful for that but I still believe it should be ones choice!
