Why would a town the size of Mayfield need two code enforcement officers? Two new trucks for them also! Sounds like taxpayer money waste to me.

to me it sounds like they need to get busy and clean up the town. I think if its a run down empty house it should be tore down and home owner billed for the tear down. Clean up the run down ass town and run out the trash...

i have noticed that code enforcement only puts their little signs up in certain parts of town.yeah, they needed the signs put up,but i have seen houses that looked just as bad or worse and they never get a sign put up.they are yards in town that have looked bad for the last couple of years and i have never seen a code enforcement sign in the yard.

that's exactly what i'm saying.there is no telling who that field belongs to,but i bet if it belonged to one of us they would have not only stuck a sign up but given us a fine as well.

its like that in paducah and a lot of the big fields that need mowing are owned by the city of paducah so it might be that way in mayfield also.

The Ugly Truth

Mayfield, KY

The Ugly Truth is that this is a waste of money and they could take the money from code enforcement and have more police officers. The police had this duty years ago and you did not have the property conditions that you see now. Code Enforcement has torn down alot of houses in this town that needed it. But they need to be officers so they can go directly to court instead of the code enforcement board. When you can get into people's pockets, through the court system, some people take notice and don't want to be in the court system. Move the code enforcement to the police department. The Ugly Truth is this is another level, that is not needed and was already being taken care of by law enforcement. The office went from the city planner and building inspector to 5 people, including two code enforcement officers and a person to take calls. Why is it needed? Code Enforcement always calls the police to help them out. Why the waste ?

He must have changed then because I agree 100% with the people saying only certain areas and certain people are targeted with infractions! I know from personal experience!!!

If Mayfield didn't have code enforcement, it would be like the city of Wingo. I live in a nice subdivision but, my neighbor will not mow his yard. if this was in Mayfield, he would be made to mow or be fined. I would love to have code enforcement in Wingo.

i have acouple of friends who are puching 60 and are in 'not-so-good'health.after the ice storm they had all these broken limbs in their yard like most of the rest of the area.but, they had no one to pick the limbs up for them and the landlord wouldn't do it.they also could not afford to pay anybody.when code enforcement came around they explained their situation to them hoping they could suggest someone that could help.instead they gave them a fine and put the famous sign in their front yard.this made me mad.the fine was only $20 but that was money they just didn't have so i paid it for them.i also got my son and some of his friends together to get rid of all the limbs and branches.when code enforcement came back around to check on the yard and take their sign of disgrace away, i told him that i thought it was really cruel and cold-hearted of them to put up signs and fine people who are not finacially and physically able to have spotless yards like they think they should have.i also told them that they need to set up some type of program that helps out in situations like their's.
course i know that will never happen because they don't care about the people of this town just how it looks.

Look at the rental yards at some of Phil Myers apartment houses sometime! Wonder how many violations he's received. I'd really like to know!

thank you, fullers.from what i have read of some of your posts you seem to be a decent person yourself.
as far as my friends go i have known them for over 20 yrs,but i would have done that for anyone that was in a situation where they were between a rock and a hard place and could not get out of it.it's just not fair the way some of the low-income and the elderly are treated.
