I recently read the article published by our local news paper The Mayfield Messenger about the new leash law ordinance. I was thrilled to read that most pitbull owners are commonly drug dealers being in that i am a married man with 2 small children and work 60 hours a week. The article was simply propaganda used to incite hatred towards a certain breed of dog. Here's an idea why not evaluate each dog on an individual basis as in i have a pitbull and proud of it my children ages 2 and 4 love her she would never hurt anyone but just because she is a pitbull my children risk losing there family dog because our dear mayor is being "proactive". PROPAGANDA pure and simple. why dont we go gather up all the little ankle biters who indeed are more likely to bite a human and enforce large insurance prices on their owners. Judge the dog not the breed. You can make a beagle dog bite. 29 years around them they are the BEST dogs ever!!!!!!!!

I saw the paper and I agree with Pit Lover. I've known some gentle, loving pitbulls. The city is also discriminating against Rottweilers and Dobermans. Those breeds are also on the citys "DO NOT OWN" list. So now the city of Mayfield will regulate through ordinances which breed of dog the residents of the city may own. If it wasn't so sad, it would almost be laughable. A poverty stricken town that is operated like a home owners association that regulates every aspect of your life right down to which direction you may discharge your lawn clippings from your mower and what breed of dog you may own. The part I liked best out of the whole article said "Anyone walking a dog in Mayfield may be stopped by the police".

Pretty soon the police will stop you, question you, and search you or your property without a warrant. Why is that? Because there are people who want to rewrite The Constitution especially those pesky first 10 amendment's know as The Bill Of Rights. Welcome to the New World Order I hope you all enjoy it.

well all you dumb asses voted Mrs. Cantrell in because you wanted a "Change" thought you all would have learned your lesson about "Change" when you all voted Dumbama into office in 2008. Newsflash voting doesn't change anything, it's just a different group of people every 4 years.

People are such sheep, tell them what they want to hear, give them a sense of false hope and you can bend them to do your will like hot steel.

The mayor misspoke when she mentioned doberman's and retracted that statement the next day in the Messenger. This ordinance was not passed on her watch. But was and is a necessary ordinance. The ordinance restricts...pit bulls, rotts and mixed breeds there of. You may certainly own one of these breeds in the "City of Mayfield" if you have $100,000.00 liability insurance, an approved fence and walk the dog on a leash no longer than 6 feet and those breeds must wear a muzzle when being walked and yes you have to be over 18 years of age. And yes there are a lot of owners of these breeds in Mayfield that are playing by the rules and buying the liability insurance etc. And yes some of those breeds make sweet and docile pets. It to bad that thugs and drug dealers make them mean or made the reputation that they were mean. As for the grass clippings being mowed into the street...do you know where the grass clippings and all the other trash people throw from their car windows go? In our ancient very fragile sewer system. It is extremely costly for "any city" to replace sewer lines. Do you want sewer to back up in your basement or bathroom because the sewer drains are clogged up after one of our heavy rains with grass clippings, leaves (it is against code to blow your leaves in the street for this same reason) and trash people throw out of their vehicles? I don't and I don't think you do. These are not uncommon ordinances in any city.

Dumb asses??? Do you think this vicious dog ordinance was voted in while Mayor Cantrell has been in office? It was voted in 'several years' ago under Mayor Byrn. Sadly the last straw in making this ordinance was when a small older lady walked up on her neighbors porch where a pit bull had always been tied. The pit bull had never bothered the lady before. But for some reason the pit chewed her up that day and the pit knew her and knew she visited there often. I have met the older woman and I have seen her many scars from the dog bites. There are numerous dog bites reported in the city quite often. Mostly dog bites to children. It is a violation to harbor any breed of dog that is deemed vicious and a danger if 'unrestrained or at large' to neighbors, children and mail carriers. This sounds very reasonable to me. I certainly don't want to get bit by a vicious dog of any kind running at large just because I am out taking a walk.

Who would evalutate each pit bull and any other ankle biter dog in the city? Would your tax dollars or mine pay for this service? Would people that don't even own a dog have to pay for this service? I agree that pit bulls are beautiful dogs and can be sweet and docile. The thugs and drug dealers have given them the bad reputation and trained them to attack or either act like they might attack. Makes better sense to round up all the drug dealers and their dogs, whatever vicious breed they may be harboring.

What does being a female and working 9-5 have to do with? If you have a pit bull in the City of Mayfield and do not have liability insurance and the proper fence etc. then your pit can be ceased by the City. If you don't abide by the ordianace then maybe you need to get a second job so you can pay to abide by it.

Not all pit bulls are mean but they certainly can be. Some are sweet and docile pets. Your neighbor treated it like crap, you said...that speaks volumes. Most any dog treated horrible can become vicious. If you lived in the city, you could have reported the dog and something would have been done. If you live in the county...well I guess your on your own. Also thugs and drug dealers are turning to other breeds now to make them mean or appear to be mean. Getting rid of the thugs and drug dealers would be better.
