Yes, it has and so has our benefits. Our life is a living hell these days. They've taken away everything from us, including a low retirement and bad health insurance. That doesn't help the economy either.

You ppl only have yourselves to blame, seems every time I went past that place you were on strike. Nobody could get a job there unless they were a**hole buddies with or were related to a union member. So you made your beds hard now lay in them and enjoy. You got greedy and now everyone is paying for it.

I worked at the tire factory for 22 years yes the pay was good. I'm paying for it now 20 years ago I had back surgery, put on a weight limit was not allowed back to work, turned down for workers comp, and social security . not a day goes by that I'm not in pain, I have tested positive for Asbesto and silicosis a lung disease, and benzene exposure. why do you think they couldn't sell the building? It was so contaminated with Asbesto no one in their right mind would ever consider of opening a new factory. the land out back of the plant was used for a waste land fill, at one time it was on a list for Superfund site (the federal government's program to clean up the nation's uncontrolled hazardous waste sites). now they run pumps 24/7 to keep the Chemicals from getting in the ground water.

I don't have a "dog in this race," so to speak. I didn't work there nor did any of my family. I do believe many, many years ago, there were frequent strikes (which was the culture everywhere, i.e., union versus management), but in the many years just prior to GT closing, there were no strikes. The union and management developed a much better working relationship and the culture had changed dramatically. Let's just be fair. Can anyone out there verify my observation on this issue?

GT went to mexico and yeah everyone out there has something to do with it! They wont work for $1.25 an hour like the plant in mexico is paying! I love hearing all the ignorance about unions because if it wasn't for the union the minimum wage wouldn't be how much it is now among many other things! Im sure your glad its gone because its trash like you that run to Wal-Mart and by all that foreign products causing it! That's why you make $8 an hour because you support every nation but your own! You will probably never understand why these companies are running over seas! As long as you have no loyalty this nations economic status will be hurting

Those people who are badmouthing the people who worked there are just jealous because of the money these people made. The money that was made by these people was little compaired to what they were exposed to. Some of those people have health problems from the exposures, others have died. The lucky ones just lost a good paying job and a lifestyle change. If you had a problem with the ammout of money these people made then mabe you should have stoped buying the products that made them continue to have work.

AT least the Union's stood up for people right's If there were more strong union's today, this nation wouldn't be in the shape it is in. I know first hand, because my husband started to work there in 1976. Yes they did have strikes, but it was only to better their pay and benefits. We know of other people you came to work there after their retirement from state jobs that didn't last a week. They actually agreed that they didn't know how these guys did that work for all of those years. When they did send jobs to Mexico, they workmanship was so bad, the tires had to be sent back to Mayfield to be re-done. Yes, during the strikes, the people did make concessions and cuts. As for the kids of today, they would never work, like those people did there. You had to be in there to understand. They earned every f... penny they earned! I wasn't the employee, just the wife who had to live thru 30 years of my husband hating every day of his work. He did what he had to do for his family.

That's all and well for you and your family. but that damn union RUINED it for everyone else.We NEVER got the chance to even try to work there simply because that union created such a hostile impression of EVERY WORKER in this area, the plant couldn't wait to pack up and move away from here.I personally know dozens of ppl that worked there, and everyone of them said the same thing, IF YOU ARE NOT RELATED TO A UNION MEMBER OR KNOW ONE OF THE UNION BIGWIGS, YOU ARE WASTING YOUR TIME PUTTING IN AN APPLICATION BECAUSE THEY WILL NEVER ALLOW YOU TO GET HIRED.And like I said before everytime you turned around that union was on strike and it was not safe to drive past the plant because you might get your windows broken out by a pack of thugs standing in the road. All of them used to strut around with their union jackets on like their sh*t didn't stink and dared you to say something. That is the very reason that the chicken plant hires out of town and even out of country help instead of local people.People that were born here, went to school here, and hoped to get a good paying job HERE. Instead we sat here and watched you greedy bastards, close down plant after plant in and around this area.So how the hell are we supposed to "buy American" when most of us that chose to stay here and try to raise a family must get by on a minimum wage job ,because that is all there is left here.So you sit on your bloated asses in your paid off 4 bedroom homes on 100 acres of land, that the tire plant paid for, and look down your nose at us trying to get by with NOTHING!!!!

Just like I said your mad because your flippin burgers! Your the only person whining but I feel really sorry for your family since you have no initiative and don't support them! I only worked at the plant for 4 years and the older guys and gals worked a hell of a lot harder than flippen parties! Yeah they made more money than you but that's because of "THE UNION" you hate so much! If you want the job its in mexico paying $1.25 an hour go get it! Its non union now as the pay makes it fairly obvious! As for me Im now a "TEAMSTER" largest union in the world! There's good paying jobs everyday in the paper and if you need help with your current job going union, I can help with that too! Hate the union everyday if you choose but by doing that you'll stay broke and I'll keep laughin!
