I want the union so I can file a grievance ever time some one looks at me. I'm a lazy worker only interested in gettin some when no one looking, I sniff around all the women at work hoping one will throw me a bone. I'm a scum.

Give them 6 month to prove they are trying. Simply, the company doesn't owe you anything and being employed in tgis economy is a blessing, not a right. If you guys aren't happy, then quit. I can promise you that there are hundreds of people waiting to get in at progress. That sounds like a solution to me. you guys quit, use whatever education you have to go find better jobs and then you can taunt me about it. Meanwhile, a hundred more families can have some awesome healthcare, benefits and a great steady income with the opportunity for overtime that if you want bad enough, you can work now and get more money. Sounds like an awesome idea to me! Those who are going in everyday and working hard can continue to feed their family without the worry of a Honeywell lockout, the lock out I posted in that article about the New Year's Day lockout at a Canada PRS, and the shut down like General Tire, and you and your buddies can go find "gold" elsewhere.
I saw the General Tire contract and held it in my hand in 1995 it was a 10 year plan...and they would be shutting down maybe more people needed to see it..it wasnt the unions fault the company shut it down, you should get your facts before you say anything

Companies, especially around here, will choose to shut down when unions were involved because it costs too much in overhead and income won't provide as much profit as it would say, if the company shut down and moved out of the area, or even out of the country. It is illegal for a company to come out and say "We shut down due to the union." Normally, you hear, "Due to ever increasing costs of products and service, we are moving/dissolving the work of this plant into another/out of the country," because there is nothing illegal about that.

Here's the fact. Union or not, if costs of doing business rise to the point that a company cannot produce a price competitive product it will succomb to its own fate. If you can get a loaf of bread cheaper at grocery store a than at grocery store b you will get it at a. You will not be concerned with whatever is going on in the back room or with the owners and employees. You, the consumer, will buy at the cheapest price as long as the quality is still there.

So the focus should be what is the union going to do to bring down costs and increase efficiencies? I bet that question hasn't been answered by any union supporters.

And by the way, its Steel Workers, right? Isn't this a railroad supply company? Steel workers?

What do you want protection for? Your job? The best protection for your job is do your job. And do it efficiently and safely. That's the best protection for the entire facility you can get.

Gaining a union will not protect you from anything unless these criteria are met.
