what about ryan goodman, mark shelton, aron mcclung, chip hollway, micah smith, donnie thacker, graves has had alot of good players not many great if they can get a coach in like lawson or mcclung or coach greg U, someone that will tell the parents to shut up, and teach the kids repect, personal strength, and the game, graves will own this end of the state
This is the funniest post I have ever seen...mcclung...are you kidding someone has to explain to him the difference between a guard and a tackle...you would have to tape his wrist and put right and left on them...and lawson .....well you can just look at what his defense did this year...they gave up 25 points a game....

Graves has had 3 players be first team all state in the last 5 years. Mayfield this is why no other school in west KY likes you. Its not because your so good. We like Murray, Paducah, lone oak, Christian, etc but it's because of your arrogance. Yeah your good but get over it. Why throw ot in others face. We didnt cone to this forumn to talk mayfield football. There's a life outside of it. I guess this town has nothin else to be proud of which is sad.

Graves has had GREAT PLAYERS and RICHIE FLOYD is top ten. Check the GC record books the man was a star plus went on to Memphis to really blossom. If u played against him or his team his SR year you would know. The ONLY UNDEFEATED TEAM in regular season but got upset in playoffs. Hell half tht team went on to play college ball somewhere. I'm no hater so you gotta give credit where it's due.
I'm with you. The only Mayfield people that get on here on talk trash are band people and kids that don't play and can't cut it. The people that actually PLAYED at Mayfield have class and sportsmanship. We were good, but we didn't tell anybody, we just played. So all of you fans and kids that are in ISD shutup, you are the making us lose respect that we earned for you.

This is what makes "the big game" so fun. I am and at the time was really good friends with mostly all the cardinal football players. I never had any disrespect for the cardinals. To me they showed the rest of the state who was boss. I'm an eagle though and I will allways say a cardinal will have to take the back seat when my crew hit the field and that's in any sport.(Just saying):)

It's really hard to pick just one player from GCHS. I watched Barber, Goatley, Smith and others that came from Lowes do a great job for the Eagles. Each are fine young men and still proud to have been Eagles in their day!

I agree richie Floyd was no less then a top 5 pick in my opinion. He was and is a very respected man from both teams from early 90s. Ismail farris, montez benjamin, Eddie feagan, barber ,goatly bros , the fite twins my opinion first team at gc

Hated him back in the day, but Floyd was damn good...

Fite twins were also solid.

I graduated in 1998, and there is no way in hell that before then and even after then, that Richie Floyd doesn't make this list. He is a name that all GCHS alumni remember, period. I don't care what anyone says, there is no argument. And I did see him play.

Ryan Williams broke all of ritches records and only played 2 years of football in his entire life. Had offers to go play at colleges but the guy LOVED bball and went on to play college bball. Probably the most under appreciated athlete to ever go to graves. Dominated the region 1 tournamrnt in bball his senior year too without any help from his teammates

Barber, Feagin, Floyd, Hayden, Goatley,Elder, Davidson 2x, Thurston, Goodman Boys, and Shelton were the guys to watch. Who cares is a better question?

I have watched every graves high football game other than a few away games. Been a supporter since the beginning. I would have loved to see the 11-1 team play the 9-3 2006 team. People forget about that team with MacManus, Towery, Wiggins, Sandford, Wray, and Williams. Lost to Christian once and then twice by a loaded Warren Central team. I think the 11-1 team would win in a close one but that 06 team deserves just as much respect. We haven't had too many years like those 2.

I don't know who the author of this list is but it's apparent that you have not done a thorough research on this topic. If you want an accurate poll then you must include all great GCHS football players........Richie Floyd (correct spelling) included. It appears also to me from all the comments above that others are aware of his accomplishments in both football and basketball at GCHS as well as at University Of Memphis of which you must be unaware of these stats. Just saying.......

No doubt Jon Barber was a remarkable athlete. How many QB's are kickers as well. He was probally the best high school kicker in Kentucky. If I recall he could have went to Notre Dame as a starting kicker but opted to go for QB at UofL then to Oklahoma but never heard if he got any playing time ever.
OK. Jason was the kicker and Richie was the punter. John did not kick and I was there. In fact, the Mayfield coaches made a comment in the Mayfield Messenger "How many times can a person drop the ball on the one yard line in a FB game punting". You must not have seen many games.
