Heeheehee . When my suster snd BIL took their family to see President Clinton they were standing in the first row along the rope divider. As Clinton walked along his path to the speaking platform he would reach over and shake some of the outreached hands. He shook their 6 year old sons hand, then reached over my sisters head to shake another persons hand--putting his armpit directly over her face...on a hot Alabama summer day!. Heeheehee!
PU!!! That's a little too up close and personal. LOL!

Last Thursday afternoon I heard a loud unidentified boom in the far western part of the state.
If you do a search you will find many accounts of these unidentified booms around the country. Very interesting stuff.

A good evening to one and all! What a beautiful and relaxing day today.
Now I'm sitting here waiting to see what the weather will do tonight so I will know how to plan for tomorrow
Little green sprouts of crocus are up in the flower bed a couple of inches. The last two years they were blooming by this time, and does that ever give me spring fever! Right now, I don't expect to see blooms any time soon unless there's a break in all this artic air. And still, thoughts of spring are nagging at me.

True. It has been heard several times during the past month in the western part of the state. There are a lot of theories out there but I do wonder what it is.

Yes. I have read the different theories. The one that seems most plausible to me, based on the booms I have heard, is that it's either caused by something breaking the sound barrier or a tectonic plate shift. I am not a scientist, that's just my thoughts for whatever they are worth. I am fascinated by the fact that we live in such an amazing world where there are still so many unknowns.

Not saying that this is your boom, but Central Kentucky (especially around the Kentucky River) has large limestone palisades some gourged out over the years as deep as 200 to 300 feet. There are many other limestone formations and rock quarrys. I once lived almost 2 miles away from the nearest quarry, and had a hard time keeping pictures hanging on my walls when they set off dynamite blasts.

Also, I do know that sound waves carry better and further in dense material such as water. The close proximity of Western Kentucky to the Cumberland, Tennessee, Mississippi, and Ohio rivers would make that area a prime candidate for experiencing booms.

I have heard the boom on a nice, clear day. Almost like it is gravitating from the earth's core. I as well know about the quarries for years. Yes, that could explain the harshness and penetrating boom.

Guess I'm the only one that's never heard the booms. Interesting and somewhat frightening..

Good Morning! Beautiful snow here! No school, again. But I bet the dentist office is still open and I have an appointment in a short while.....

Good morning, Anne. Snow? Yes. School? No. That's beginning to sound like a broken record, huh? lol
True, you may be the only one who has never heard the booms, but I think you are also the only one who has witnessed a fireball! As I was searching for information about the booms I happened on this link and thought of you and that fireball. This is supposedly the only one ever photographed. There is also has a lot of interesting information about the booms to be found here. According to this site, the booms only began to be heard in 2011. Anyway, hope you enjoy the link. Happy day!

Thank you. But let me tell you, if felt good to lay back and relax to let them clean my teeth-- especially after that harrowing 9 mile ride that took 35 minutes lol . The interstate was even closed down for a while!

About those booms in western KY. Better half was born and raised there and he remembers occasional booms but thought it may be blasting (strip mine area after all) or sonic booms.

The lightning fireball is very interesting and it'd be pretty wild to see that...the fireball I saw was running along the ground and just like fire.. and very scary and very amazing!!

I haven't seen any little flowers poking out if the soil around here. Generally we are about two weeks behind where most of you seem to live.

flowers can't poke out through this 5 or 6 inches of snow. Poor old short legged dog had a hard time hiking his leg this morning. LOL Then we went out just a few minutes ago to take care of the chickens, and I thought I might lose him in the drifts piled up around his favorite tree. .

Well, I met & picked with Jerry Lee Lewis, met Chuck Berry, Bo Diddley and Chubby Checker. Saw Little Richard about 6 - 7 years ago at one of the casinos. But you think they'd remember me? Phshawwww.....shoot no,.... especially Hank Jr., he was out of his tree!

I am amazed at all the life experiences and all the knowledge that is represented on this thread! If we add all our ages together we'd have several hundred years of background to pull from! I appreciate all of you! The topics that are cussed (not so much)and discussed (lots) range all over the board. Something for everyone! Ever wonder how many actually monitor this thread and never post? More than a few I bet!

@Sam: I've often wondered about a believer ... There are several others around and about that are missing also. Sometimes life just gets busy and all, but they are still missed....
