Here we go again with all the stupid English lessons. Does anyone really care and what does it have to do with the topic?

No, we really don't care. Which was the point I made to Lee, who began trying to use incorrect grammar to insult anouther. This brings out the entire point of the post which was "clean your own porch before criticizing another's."

Rice is a jerk, good riddance. There was no cut in pay, Rice had been unhappy for a while. He wanted to go back to no responsibility, just put in 8 hours and go home. He had told Byrn before the election he was going, Byrn talked him into staying until it was over. Rice went to dinner with all the department heads and their wives on Saturday at Majestic, told Mayor Cantrell Sun night, got in an unmarked police cruiser Mon morning, went to Frankfort, got sworn in. Both of his Majors we out of town and he had approved that. The he hit the city for 5 weeks of vacation pay. He slept through the Neighborhood Watch meeting he had set up last week. No one there to let the people from CC Estates into the building! What a great guy!

I am going to out on a limb and say that being a trooper is much of a responsibilty than be a Police Chief in a town this small......there are a lot higher expectations to being a trooper than being a chief....people expect a lot more out of you as a trooper....if you dont believe me just ask around

I don't think that Greisz was in over his head. He is the only person west of KY Lake who is actually certified by the state as a Chief Executive Law Enforcement Officer. He served on a committee for the Governors office. He brought some professionalism to Mayfield. The good ole boys on the dept just couldn't handle it.

Greisz was doing a good job. Byrn did not support him. If you look at what has gone on at that dept. you know that changes need to be made. The dept. needs to be run by a honest and dedicated individual ,without interference from the Mayor or other politicians. I am afraid that Morrison will not be able to make the changes that are needed in that department.

hello former chief Greisz

the problem you had was that those under you in the chain of command didn't get any respect from you and, therefore.... right or wrong, they didn't have any respect FOR you.

more than anything it was a communication problem I believe. Not sure if that was every brought to Mr. Greisz's attention but he never did anything to correct it so it ended up costing the job.

I think his abilities as chief were at least adequate. Though not superior.

Barry Rice on the other hand did a fantastic job and i hate to see him go. Some of the changes he made will continue to pay off for years.

Hello former mayor Byrn,
the problem you had was that you facilitated the breakdown of the chain of command... Therefore, nobody had a reason to respect the chief. The communication breakdown started and ended in the mayors office, behind the chief's back!
I think Byrn's ability as a mayor was seriously lacking and not even adequate.
People should not question the job done by Barry Rice, there was never anything about the police department, of any significance, in the news to pass judgement. In some cases "no news is good news", but it could also mean "business as usual"!
Based upon the past, I would tend to lean toward the latter.
