George, I just went on this site for the first time. I went to the school for four years...the nuns did run it and it taught all the subjects that any other high school taught. I worked in the kitchen to get money off my tuition and Rose also worked in the kitchen. She was a character. I remember her making pies. She had a lot of energy... I graduated in 1969 and the school closed not too long after that.

Ginny, thanks so much for this information. Aunt Rose was a lovely person. She died in 1971 and her only daughter died just a few months ago. I wish I could have given the daughter this information. Aunt Rose the first of 12 children so I guess she would need to have a lot of energy.

I went to Broadlea as a camper in the late 40's, early 50's. Then became a counselor. Eventually became head waterfront counselor when Beryl Herdt was first head counselor. Wonderful summers with great memories. Just had a mini-reunion-three camper/counselors met in Vero Beach and shared memories and updates. We learned that Beryl is now Sr. Beryl OP. Visited Broadlea in July and as has been mentioned, the buildings and campus are now devoted to a number of social services. The pool has been filled in! When standing on the front lawn I could almost hear the strains of "Day is Done" as we sang it all those years ago. QUOTE who="Pat Morgan"]Hi...I went to Camp Broadlea from 1963 until 1967. A few other names: Mary Callaghan, Vicki Attard...Any info from anyone out there that was part of this era....lets chat...I also attended the High School and graduated in 1967.

Marry Jane, do you happen to have any photos of the ground, buildings or employees. I have learned that my aunt was a 1st aid nurse there somewhere between 1960 to 1969. Prior to that I think she worked. She also worked at Orange Farms as a 1st aid nurse if anyone knows anything about this place.

Does anyone have any photos of the buildings, grounds and employees from 1960 until 1971? Or how about Orange Farms?

Dear George,
Hi! I remember your Aunt Rose. She worked in the kitchen with Sr. Dionysia the head cook. She was a very sweet woman who helped in the kitchen and helped to serve us girls. I remember her often giving us "extras" on our food trays when the nums weren't looking! I was the very last graduate from the school when it closed in 1971. The girls that attended there came from all over the world - South America, Haiti, Dominican Republic, etc. I was one of the few local girls who attended. I lived there for my junior year and was a "day hop.." for my senior year. It was a wonderful experience and changed my life. I became a Special Education Teacher - now retired - but still keeps in touch with the Nuns. Your Aunt was very kind to us. If you need more info - I still keep in touch with members of my class. Best regards - Cindy

Thank you for the kind words of my Aunt. Aunt Rose died in 1971. I wish I could find some photos of her at the school. I have others of her but none while at work. There was a clothing manufacturer located at 50 North St which is a Key Bank now. I wish I could find a photo of that building and her there. I am the genealogist for my family and look for everything and anything. If you can connect me with anyone else please do.

I would love to find a couple of photos of her at work or with you ladies from the time frame. I understand she was a "nurse's aid" or something like that. She was a lovely woman.

I remember that Mary Callaghan was related to a boy in my class at St. Christopher's in Baldwin. I remember Ms. Herdt...there was also a Miss Platt, involved in the swim program.
