don't think most of americans can read the drivers manual. Isn't it a true and false test that even foreigners can pass.

It probably plays out like this, driver gets in to car, inserts key, turns on egnition and the brain shuts down and they go on cruise control and every one else is suppose to watch out for them..

So the sum of it all comes down to stupidity and or ignorance and us rails have to watch out for them in addition to doing our own job...

I lived across them railroad tracks for many a year/s and always looked prior to crossing. Many assume nothing is coming without really checking. Not all people involved in a train wreck are racing the train. Very sad that that happened. Do think they ought to put an up and down sign to aide in cutting down on the accidents. Over here ours shorts out now and again and the thing periodically freaks going uuuup and doooown for hours, till, someone comes around and fix`s the thing. So one ought to always slow down and maybe even stooooop, and loooook prior to crossing. Ya think?

I lived across them railroad tracks for several years. There`s some here where I live now. We have one of them new fangled up and down vehicle stopping signs. The thing freaks out on occation. Going uuuuup and doooown and uuup and dooown. Geez!!! That`ll go on for an hour or so till someone eventially comes around to fixing the thing. So what I`m saying is people ought to be looking AND listening carefully for trains prior to crossing. Oh yes and them little train track cars, that fix tracks... And people placing their cars on the tracks for who knows what thrilling insane reason. LOOK people be more alert when driving esp. on a track crossings. Sad that that accident happened and shoulden`t of. Sure it`s opened many an eye. Some are being aware more when a track is staring them in the face. My thoughts and prayers go out to the families who have been through train accidents. God bless.

that would be the best thing, but that's also where the city council and the county and the bnsf will have to get together and come up with some sort of plan to better protect the crossings.

Til then, us rails continue to do what we are required and blow for the crossings and pray that some unsuspecting person takes the time to stop, look an listen before rushing on to what ever they may have planned.

right now it's the drivers' responsibility to look out for us moving down the tracks.

remember a 50 mph train at about 6000 tons doesn't stop on a dime and the usual out come during a collision is fatal. And also the public will blame us for taking someone's life that rushes the crossings.

The family of this girl, is a single mother and a sister, and several step brothers and sisters who live elsewhere.
The Mother needs financial aid to bury her daughter, as she is almost penniless.

Look, Listen, Live.

Simple. Yield sign or not.

Some people are just too "kwel" to do any of the above though. It'll never happen to me, right?

i concur with amtkhogger

i have seen a few comments here about "the tracks were not marked"

how long do you have to live in sultan before you know where the tracks are? theres only one set of tracks, they dont get up and move. did the driver just never ever come out to that side of town? was it his first day driving? i just dont understand trying to justify someone as a victim when they were clearly at fault. sorry for the loss but put the blame where it belongs.
