Leonard Pitts: No joking matter for beleaguered conservatives

A reader wants to know why I didn't mention what David Letterman said. John, from Monroe, Wash., wrote in response to a recent column on the shooting at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington.

I think we all have some racism, bigotry, discrimination in our souls. However infantessimile it is, you still have some. One guy may only yell racial obsenities when he's cut off in traffic, and another stands silent at a racist joke, another avoids the parts of town that cater to other races. However to associate racism with homosexuality is absurd. One is normal people with a different skin color, and the other is a sexual deviant behaviour. The gays are trying to ride for free on the backs of racial civil rights. If you had to choose between a Muslim Dawn or a Gay Dawn like the movie Red Dawn) which would you choose? And instead of overthrowing the occupants like in the movie you have to live under their authority. The gays would pass laws requiring sex, and who knows what else. So what side are you on?

I am also a fan of Letterman, but for more than just his humor. He is the president and primary contributor to American Foundation for Courtesy and Grooming. This foundation has donated nearly $2.5 million dollars in a four year total to a number of organizations. Below is just a partial list of some of the causes that Letterman has supported:

The list is so long, I can’t print it all here. Evil David Letterman, a man Palin can’t trust her 15 year old daughter around, even on national TV, has been spreading his money around to causes which benefit children…women…the disabled.

In contrast, Sarah Palin has shown a profound lack of support for women's and children's issues in her home state that would lead one to think she has something against women and children.

Despite the occsion rique joke, Letterman is a decent man with traditional values. Many thanks for this article supporting him.

If you listen to Fox News or clear Channel Communications you give a fairly good understanding of the right wing propaganda that it being fed to the American public.
All it would take to straighten this out would be to declared Rupert Murdoch who is not an American an enemy of the United States.
have him deported sell off all the assets of News Corp. including Fox News
to the highest bidder. the right wing propaganda mill would fold up like a cheap tent.

Imus supported just as many great causes with just as much cash.

The double standard is what people have an issue with.

So....accused terrorists are entitled to constitutional protections but conservative speakers are not. Interesting.

Bingo. And I'm tired of people swallowing the pseudoscience that says gays are "born that way." The existence of successful, healthy "ex-gays" (I've personally known a few) would be enough to put a lid on that if people used their brains more & their feelings less. And the fact that some less-than-motivated gays don't manage to get healthy does nothing to invalidate that.
