Can someone please tell me why Stephen Sutton wouldnt want the Sportsplex in Maury City? From what I've heard, not only did he go back on his word and vote against it, he convinced other commissioners to vote against it too. What's his problem?

I think Stephen is the only one who can give you the answer to that. Do you need his phone number?

Now is the time to support the sportsplex. If you want a better place for your children to play then they are asking you to make a small donation. The committee for the sportsplex is trying to raise the $6500 that county commissioners wouldn't give for the official blueprints and cost estimate. You can donate at any Bank of Crockett location. If evey family that have children playing would donate $10 then we could easily have the $6500 raised.

I don't know why an elected official that's supposed to represent Maury City wouldn't support something that would bring people and money to town.

That is true. You have to make money to get it sometimes

This county is over 10 million in debt. A sportsplex would add at least a million to the debt. If you think that anyone is going to turn a profit on a million dollar debt by selling tickets, hot dogs, and cokes, you are crazy. Maury City couldn't keep a farmers market open, much less run a sportsplex.

I think the best place for the sports plex would be on 412 near the new gas station and McDonald's. It will bring money into the county once it is up and running due to all the tournaments the county can host there. As much as the one in Jackson charges the county could make plenty of money off of admission and concessions. There is plenty of land on 412 and surely someone could donate some of it to help better out county. Our kids deserve a nice, clean place to play baseball, soccer, softball and basketball.

The ball fields at the school are small without enough parking for all the parents. The stands are falling apart and the dug outs barely have enough room for the kids ball bags much less the kids sitting in there waiting for a turn at bat. All parents of ball players know that we need the sports plex. It doesn't matter where it goes in the county there is going to be someone upset about it. The one thing that we should all agree on is that the kids need it.

No, the kids don't "need" it. Theyre are plenty of places to play ball. A minority of people want the taxpayers of the county to pay for their hobby. We get taxed enough in this county and most of the taxes pay for the schools. Crockett county has one of the highest tax rates in Tennessee. More spending won't fix the problem.

What we 'need' is industry in this God forsaken place.

It would be nice to have a sports plex in crockett but maury city but get real. How many motels are there, how many places to eat, answer 0. If you build it, they will not come. Just go to jackson sports plex and see the misuse of county funds there. If it could come close to making what it would cost I would be in favor of it, but no way in crockett county.
