clemson already had a food lion and winn dixie close down. publix is expensive and since most of clemson is college students, no one is going to shop there. and i hate that they are going to put it on freedom drive. i guess they will just tear down all of those pretty trees. if it is necessary to have a publix here, why didn't they use one of the vacant grocery stores? i give it at the most 6 months before it closes down.

Holli, Winn Dixie closed down ALL of its stores in South Carolina; it was not a function of its viability in Clemson. As for Food Lion, it suffered from bad visibility. I didn't even know it was there.

Food Lion was offering about the same stuff as BILO, but not as fresh. I went there when it first opened, thinking it would offer more natural or organic foods, as they supposedly promised. Found half rotten stuff in the brand new store and swore never to go in again.

Publix is compeletly disregarding the fact that Clemson students are living in these houses they just bought, and aren't even giving them till the end of the semester to vacate...Publix planned this very poorly and are kicking students out of their homes/apartments with absolutely no regard for where these students are supposed to live for the remainder of the semester. This project manager has no conscience and is only interested in making quick buck when it couldnt kill them to wait 2 months for school to get out and students' leases to run out.

It is about time we get a good store that can compete with BiLo. In Clemson the quality of the Bilo had gone done because of no competition. Where they will locate is a good location. By the way remember Clemson is not just for the college students!

I'm glad we're getting a Publix. To William, this has been in the planning stages for almost 3 years, so any students who took housing on the land that was destined to be flattened were taking a risk. Pushing back construction 2 months loses vital good-weather months for building.

I'm even more interested to find out what other sorts of stores will be in this development.

Now, if only the Trader Joe's would come in like it was supposed to (corner of 93 and Issaqueena), that would be great.

Publix will do well here. Negotiating the 123/93 intersection is a nightmare, which alone justifies paying premium Publix prices. Furthermore Publix is a far-superior chain. And visibility should be the best of any in Clemson. To William, unless disclosed in their lease, a requirement to vacate upon commencement of construction, students had to be bought-out by the property owners prior to selling to the developer. If disclosed, they assuredly are paying less rent. If not disclosed, they have the upper hand, and can set their demands accordingly.
