I want to start riding my bike around Charlotte, however I live on Steel Creek rd. It's busy road that's basically a highway of sorts because it's 50 mph. I know if I get South Tryon I can go virtually anywhere.

All I need to do is ride Steel Creek to get to South Tryon, but once again that's a busy 50mph road. Their are no sidewalks, so it's a risk anytime I touch that road. But I know another street that's safer and has less traffic.

But now that I know how to escape Steel Creek rd, I want to know if there is anything else I need to know about getting around Charlotte on my bike.

My bike right now is a 7 speed Schwinn Errand. It's a hybrid bike I got from Walmart. Not cycling bike so I'm not going to be going too fast on it.

Thanx for your help.
