That is becaus ethey are both intellectually dishonest. If they actually do something to remediate the issues of the black community, then they would be out of a job. They could no longer play the victim. Look, there is no doubt that black people got a raw deal. But, at some point, we have to look within ourselves and stop blaming others for issues we help to perpetuate.

Was your school in NC and what county was it in?.
What years did that happen? What college?
When I got to college and didn't understand everything, I went to a professor's office to ask a few questions. I was told that "If you are not intelligent enough to figure this out yourself, you are not intelligent enough to be here. Goodby." Message: The hand holding is over. Get off your ass and start thinking. Thank you to that professor.
<quoted text>
I don't about Pro, but I was the unfortunate victim of the Gaston County public school system. I, too, graduated with honors and I'm not telling the years I attended, but hector was a pup.

When I attended, high school was grades 10-12. We had so little math courses that in our senior year we could retake a math course to fill in the otherwise limited curriculum.

As was stated by the other poster, I knew I'd never send my children to a school system so pathetic. We cut back at our house, took overtime if offered and did what it took to send ours to private school. Never regretted a day.

There's still teachers teaching there today that were there when I graduated. They were ineffective then and with age, I don't think they're like a good bottle of wine and have improved. Tenure is a beautiful word for people like them.

Good post.

All races have at sometime have gotten a raw deal. It's called life and life isn't always fair.

You're correct, stop the blame game and take responsibility for our own lifr. If just 50% of this country would take responsibility for their lives, learn from mistakes they've made, and try their hardest to make something out of themselves, might I add legally, think of how much better off this country would be with just 50% doing this?

AGAIN, "stricter gun laws" would have stopped the "Boredom" killing. How about the young man in Ga. he said, "I'm sorry, I'm off my meds." "Hill's brother, Timothy, told ABC News the suspect has "long history of medical disorders" including bipolar disorder, and was bound to "do something stupid."

Timothy Hill, 22, said he's not close to his brother and thinks he last saw him in January 2011. Hill,who said his brother once threatened to kill him, also said his Michael Hill was taking drugs for treating attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder as early as age 6." "Seattle Hempfest: One Week Until the World’s Largest Marijuana Celebration" "This year’s event will have a distinct theme for each day of the weekend. On Friday, the festival will focus on No Federal Schedule (the End Game), followed by Harm Reduction, Youth Use & Dependency on Saturday and Voter Power: Your Vote and Democracy on Sunday." Another intoxicant made available and then we get to talk about educating on the harm. It's a crazy world.

Administrators have not been doing their job if that is the case. There are over 20 reasons for firing a tenured teacher, incompetence being one of those along with such nebulous reasons as immorality, insubordination, etc. The only protection tenure gives (gave ) teachers is that the reason for their dismissal had to be be stated.. Now they can just be fired for any reason such as not dropping their drawers, not sucking up, not inflating grades for the children of school board members, the principals niece needs a job, etc. The elimination of tenure does not improve teaching, it improves administrative hoop jumping ,sucking up and nepotism because administrators are the ones doing the evaluating. Here again, the public has been sold a white elephant.
The only motivation I see here is that if we can fire a lot of good teachers from public schools, maybe we can force them into private schools to replace the un certified and often unqualified personnel there.

Can't wait until teachers and students show up at school, if they show up, stoned. What great discussions that will be, "what's your favorite munchie?" I can hear it now.

<quoted text>
Speaking of unqualified teachers, they're in the public school system or used to be. When I attended the "shop" teacher was a local building contractor, who had attended college but not for teaching. The teacher that taught auto mechanic was just that, a local mechanic and the drafting teacher was from a local gas company, not a degree in architecture, but did their cad work. Our biology teacher's degree was in PE, our typing teacher was a former secretary with many years of experience working in an office setting and our history teacher also a degree in PE with a metal plate in his head and sometimes the elevator never made it out of the basement.

Speaking of qualified teachers being forced to private schools, that's great. Only strengthens the private school system and gives places in the public school system even with quality certified teachers which seem to be failing miserably.

Public schools should take a page out of the book of private schools ACCOUNTABILITY. You don't perform, you don't stick around.

"Most students are not adequately prepared to face the rigor of college, according to the latest ACT scores, which also show that the average composite score on the college-entrance exam fell from last year.

That composite score dropped to 20.9 among high school students in 2013, the lowest in eight years. Since 2006, scores had been relatively flat at about 21.1, on a scale where 36 is perfect." The education system in this country is failing and the core reason is too large for ANYONE to fix.

"The report shows that African-American and American Indian students were the least likely of any group to take a core curriculum—four years of English and three each of math, science, and social studies—in high school by 2013.

While there is hope that the common-core standards have the potential to improve instruction and outcomes for students, adopting them is not enough, she said. Teachers need support, professional development, and materials to make sure students can meet the new standards." http://www.edweek.org/ew/articles/2013/08/21/...

I'll take the worst teacher at Gaston Day and put them up against ANY govt school teacher(s) you can provide in a debate of knowledge within the same subject and I'd be willing to bet my retirement that the worst Gaston Day teacher would run circles around any of your govt teachers! And from what I've seen at these govt school teachers protest, most of them don't run, they either waddle or hobble!

Why don't you set this up so that I can bring a high school history teacher that I know? I could use your retirement money. But, you won't set it up because you know it is all bs. Just talking big without knowing what you are proposing. The guy I know has forgot more about history than your private school teacher will ever know. Line it up.

Bet he knows everything from A to Z.

Why you bring someone with a bad memory to a history knowledge contest. If he has short term memory loss he may do ok, but if he has to go back a ways, may put him at a disadvantage.

Just saying...
