I like Wine Nation and they have a good selection of wine. Their " wine guy",however; could be a little more friendly and a little less pompous. I cringe when he is working. I like the other people who work there, but I am considering not buying my wine there anymore. I used to go to a place in Middletown, and might just start going back.

Lindsey, I couldn't agree with you more. The wine "expert" at Wine Nation couldn't tell the difference between a '45 Mouton and a bottle of Night Train.

Agree , the owner Dev , is a nice guy . His wife turned me off when she asked that I no longer use my American Express card because it is too expensive for them . And thd wine " expert" is a real tool with an attitude . Gallo`s and Camelot liquors are better alternatives.

Ha ha! So true. I was all like "what kind of wine goes with Fish" and he was all like "whatever". Then i was like what kind is that lol but he didn't get the joke.I buy all of my wine at the main street 7-11 now. i just get whatever the guys outside are drinking. Get 'er done, right? Like that comedian says!

I disagree 1000% with these posts about the "wine guy" at Wine Nation. He has been in the wine business for a long time and really knows his stuff. It's a good experience talking to him about wine and listening to his opinions. He helped me a great deal during the holidays to put together some incredible gifts. Great products combined with knowledge on the subject provides a good shopping experience at Wine Nation.

The Wine Nation has an outstanding selection
and the prices are very competitive.
(They also offer coupons in the local money saver).
I have been a loyal customer since their opening
and enjoy the 'wine tasting' they offer to the
public on the weekends.
"The Wine Guy" is a true expert in his field
and I totally disagree with the other comments written about him.
He is professional, knowledgeable & helpful.
It's the only place I shop for wine~

I find it amusing that some of the above writers would confuse being pompous with being passionate and professional about ones profession. felix, the wine nation "expert" is just that. we find him extremely knowledgeable on the subject of wine and food. he's helped us on many occasions and has introduced us to many fine pairings and all with an eye on value. matawan is lucky to have someone of his caliber in town.

We have known the "Wine Expert" at Wine Nation for years. It is because of him that we have acquired a taste for wines. We find him very knowledgeable and have found him very helpful with wine and food pairings over the years that have made special occasions such as holiday and birthdays a success. Maybe it is not so much pompousness and arrogance but your inabilities to understand someone who appreciates wine as much as he does.

It is obvious that whoever is making the negative comments above is a competitor of wine nation and is feeling a loss in sales due to wine nations success. It is a great store with great pricing (they were giving away Dom at cost New Years Eve, when others were ripping you off for 199+ per bottle). Felix,.." the wine guy " is always sharing his knowledge-has an email list you can join and always willing to go out of his way for you. He is honest and will always point you in the right direction of price and quality for any type of purchase. He is confident and passionate because he knows what he is talking about I love to listen and learn...Thanks Felix! dont listen to the bozo's above, your obviously doing a bang up job to make them pissed at you !- Shea of Morganville

I'm sorry, but I'm not a competitor. I was just expressing my opinion. He may be very knowledgeable, but I find him to be pompous and arrogant. I've met many sommeliers, at many restaurants. I am not confusing my feeling that he is pompous, with his knowledge and passion for wine. One can be pompous and passionate at the same time. I also appreciate fine wine. I am only expressing my opinion.

Again, I am not confusing my opinion of him with his passion and expertise. He may have passion, and I suppose expertise.

I was in Wine Nation, and had a really simple question. I asked Felix what kind of wine he would recommend pairing with wild boar. he went OFF on me, asking if I was a supporter of Sarah Palin, and that they didn't want people "like me" in their store. I guess that liberal snobbery plays well in the big city, but here in the heartland it just doesn't sit well. i bet his name isn't even Felix, he's just putting on airs.

Felix is an jerk. I stopped going to Wine Nation because of him as well. The man has a history of pissing off both customers and owners. Arrogance is his compensation for being short. He bounces around and has a track record that is not good.

I haven't seen Felix in there for quite some time, either. Although he seemed to know his wines, I noticed a bit of attitude after his business was established. Whatever. I find that the new Buy Rite at the Market Place (Route 34N, Matawan) has better prices, anyway.
