How can an active shoulder lane be considered a bus lane? Many times when you trying to enter the the highway through the shoulder lane, you are met by flying buses! This accident was bound to happen and hope the "bus lane" will be permanently closed to hopefully avoid further accidents.

You obviously do NOT work in New York! We all need that bus lane to get to and from work. Too many people use there own cars to get around causing tons of traffic. The bus lanes make the commute easier. People need to learn how to drive!

Hey idiot, the camera from the Academy bus showed that the school bus overtook him and turned right in front of him from the slow lane across the shoulder/bus lane to make the right onto Arcade lane.

Know what you're talking about before you open your pie hole.

I live in Old Bridge and have gotten cut off on many occasions from Academy Bus Drivers who drive like maniacs. Not all of them, but definitely more than their fair share.

I guess I'll have to remember that in the future, if one cuts me off again, it's because I'm an idiot and they have supreme intelligence... NOT!

Peeved: think twice about what you talk about before you post. In this case, the school bus driver may have been at fault, but that doesn't mean that there aren't too many overly aggressive Academy drivers on Route 9. Calling me an idiot doesn't make them better drivers!

Just saw the press release that the Academy bus driver was given two summonses due to his fault in the accident...

I don't know that driver personally, nor do I want to pass judgement on him in light of this tragedy, but many Academy (and NJ Transit) drivers are bullies of the road!

Carefully look at video. The school bus just had pulled out of the parking lot ahead of that white SUV. Anyone who travels rt9 knows this was going to happen. I believe they need to paint a dotted line on the right side of the solid shoulder line and paint "buss lane" way more often then it is now. The buss drivers only use this lane when traffic slows down. Then they dip to the right at the same hi rate of speed. It's a bad situation, obviously , that's why they suspended the buss lane for now. Hopefully they will get it right this time. We need these buses to take some load off the hi way, but many people can't ride them because they work at different locations and carry many tools with them,etc...

it was very plain too see that the school bus driver was at fault, for turning into the right lane without looking,a-lot of these school bus drivers drink and indulge in drugs that`s a fact, some even stop home for a few between run`s,that`s why i drive my kids to school i don`t trust these school bus drivers!most of them come from low-income family`s that have mental problem`s,so beware of these so-called school bus drivers..

Like Academy Bus Drivers, it's probably a mix, but there are a lot of School Bus Drivers around here who should not be in charge of the lives of dozens of children.

Many times I've had to slam on my brakes because they've blown through stop signs or made rights on red onto oncoming traffic.

I've also complained several times to OB police about school buses driving way over the speed limit, though I don't know if the police does anything about this.

I find that some school bus drivers also make extended stops when picking up kids, chit-chatting with the parents dropping them off and then have to speed between stops to make up the lost time.

Can't say about the drinking, drugs or mental problems as I haven't met any personally, but many could use some lessons (and control) on safe driving skills.

I'm not a bus driver, but I have witnessed both commuter and school bus drivers speeding, as well as even going up on curbs while making a fast sharp turn. But in all fairness to the chit-chatting, many times it's the parent who holds up the bus driver from continuing with their tight schedule. I've seen bus drivers waiting patiently for students to leave their homes, to the point of honking their horn several times before the student finally leaves their home - and taking their sweet time; and the parent doesn't even give a S**t. Not exactly setting a good example in teaching your child responsibility and consideration for others.

The bus lane has a speed restriction of 35mph when the bus lane is in operation. What speed was the Academy bus traveling? I believe the bus' camera showed 51!mph!
