Civic Eyes Forming Village of Hampton Bays

Full story: Patch.com

A group of residents in Hamptons Bays are resuscitating the long talked about idea of incorporating as a village to gain some independence from Southampton Town and have more of a say over their own neighborhoods.

Do not do it.I am in the village of Mastic Beach and it has changed nothing but will financially devastate your financial future. It started out as lies to get the incorporation and been nothing but lies since its onset.

Keep YOUR lies going. Taxes have not gone up tool.I love the lies. The only tax increse your complaining about is 20% from the school in two year which the village had nothing to do with or no control over. Getting real old....

Just telling the truth. They told us the budget would be 500,000.It is now over 5 million and growing fast with no highway dept,no storm rain cleaning, pretty soon we will have no village hall as there lease is up soon fixing the whole place up for the landlord and soon will be a homeless village.Oh excuse me you will get a bigger place to add to our overinflated budget. They promised us a limited gov,t,we now have to do most all services ourselves.Costly you bet.I am going to give you people the true advise that no-one gave to us about the incorp process. Most everything you are hearing fom the pro people are lies. They like our village starters are only looking out for themselves as it being a cash cow for them and there family in both paid positions and jobs for there family and friends of your newly incorp village.Beleive me the promises of getting rid of slumlords will be a failure to your visions.I is still the same old story with another layer of gov't to pay. They will in fact turn the hamptons in a direction opposite your visions. Our rental rolls in mastic beach is now 25% of the hamlet. Why --because hey will collect rental permit fees to offset the operating fees but that will bring in more unwanteds in your hamlet.Say no to a village.

so, under your method of reasoning, we now have more rentals than before the village stood up? I believe there are just about the same number, but they are now operating under a valid village rental permit and subject to village control. Before the village, there were around 1300 rentals and Brookhaven town only issued 500 permits.

The village budget is not 5million, it is 4 million and is being supported without a tax increase.

As far as the new village hall, I would love a better location with more space to have meetings and court.

do it, vote in a village and enjoy all the benefits that come with it. Tax increase, selected targeting from code enforcers, code enforcers who think they are cops, corrupt "officials", a decrease in services, infighting and a new election every year to keep the arguments and grudges going strong. I mean, just look at our happy little village and tell me you dont want to belong!

The people posting it as a positive are the people who have a vested interest in you becoming a village. He was basically right on 1 thing the budget is still in the 4 million dollar rate but it is so close to the 5 million dollar mark with no budget for cleaning storm drains,no highway and no snow removal included. If you add these items in with buying another building for the highway dept, and a village hall it will bring our budget up to probably over 7 million dollars to be borne by only 5000 homes.Sad but true. One of our trustees has his family running the highway dept which has no budget, the village administrator had a construction business that got him the job because he was part of the vision team before the enactment of the village.I have suspicions that the village bought his equipment for an inflated price. You want a village that you can be part of as they will promise you.Forget it.All there decisions are done in back door meetings that will benefit themselves.I have nothing to gain by staying on here giving you people the info that you should know before making the wrong bad decision of incorporating your future investment leaving it in there hands with no experience on how to run a village but only the vision of seeing a cash cow coming forth for there family and friends at your future higher taxes expense..You will end up with more rentals, higher budget,no change, worst participation in your community involvement, loss of services that you now have from southampton town. You will have the same section 8,welfare problem homes still being rented as the there protected under state law and the village will have there hands tied just as southampton has now.Say no to the village and pass it along to all your senior friends that do nor have a comuter as you will see how fast the pro village will beef up the yes votes by there family and friends vision for themselves.

Huh, so Carol was right when she said we would need a budget of close to 5 million dollars with a tax increase of 5 to 8 hundred a year after the first 5 years. And to think she said it BEFORE we became a village, not after!

Bottom line.. it might get better, but you will need to spend the money to make it happen. Don't believe the lies if they tell you it will be a "limited service" village. As stated, they don't exist.

MBV could get better, but we need to increase taxes to pay for all the things that TOB stopped doing for us.

So?
Zany Z cant form two words together in a single sentence that makes sense, but I never see you complain about HIS writing! Just another tactic of the ill informed in MBV trying to cast smoke away from the real issues.
Cant wait to vote em out in March!

I see you have invoked my name, even in Kuwait I am legend. You may have noticed I moved to Shirley so I can live outside of this village. Don't worry, I can still vote because I am now on John's Neck Creek.

The other problem with a village is you get morons like this guy that are friends with the "leaders" of the village and they think they are better and smarter then everyone else. It inflates their egos way too much for the kind of people they are. Basically, all the idiots come out of the woodwork and pretend to be career politicians.(which they aren't)
Think hard and GET ALL THE FACTS before blindly voting in a village.

Best advice I can give, which I wished people around here used before voting yes to a village.....
look around at the people in your town. Would you want them in charge of your life and tax dollars? Are they intelligent enough to run anything other than the microwave? If the answer is NO, dont vote in a village.

If you have a tax base on industry and business than being a village is a great idea.I.E. "Islandia". But if its mostly residential like MB (Mastic Beach) you better take a hard look at who wants it and why or you will end up like us. Nepotism and wasted tax dollars on personal law suits. MB stands for Mini Brookhaven. Its exactly what we got.

You know it is now getting close to the election and we really have no candidates that seem to be coming out of the woodwork.I was contemplatng a run but I would make every officials lifes miserable because I would demand to have many things changed.I would not let the present officials lead the village ideas anymore nor to continue down the present wrong path.I would demand it goes back to the vote of the owners.I would demand the owners vote for what is right for there village. No more back door meeing,no more contracting fees[ the owners will have there choice of free competitive bidding for the work they need done],no more no bid contracts,no more using village vehicles on your personal time,no more harassment of the small busineses in town as the present path by our present staff will eventally turn it into a ghost town.We need to put a temporary halt on the rental permits given now that we are at only 74% owner occupied homes.I would not deny them a permit but they can only apply once the rental permits are below the then allowed 20% capacity which we will enforce with extremely heavy fines for violators.Noise and overcrowding complaints made will be issued a complaint number that will be assigned to a specific code enforcer who bascally will be your contact until your complaint has been satisfied. You people envisioned a functioning village and that will be the start of it.At the meetings you will not be there just to listen to what your present staff wants but you will be the voice of the future laws that will be enacted. The new village will be future of the direction set by the owner occupied home owners.Want a new leader.Well I have not decided yet but will have to soon.Sadly I am not in tune with the goals and direction of 2 of the 3 positions up for bid and no other interesting candidates seem to be easing my anxiety for a sucessful future of our vilage.Regards

do not do it. mastic beach has become a little pfifedom for a few. services have gone way down. our roads are a mess. our budget is ten times what was promised to us and we still have no plan. there has been no improvement in rentals and no improvement in communication. now instead of the town governing us, we have five elected officials who listen at meetings to what we want, and then do what they want anyway. they lied to everyone to get this village and now the payroll is at over 2 million dollars. they have hired their friends and cronies. when you try to speak at a public hearing you are constantly interrupted and yelled at. we have a bunch of code enforcement guys who basically drive around doing nothing. much of the time they are parked somewhere being the pretend police. don't do it. you will be sorry. and as to the person who states that there hasn't been a tax increase, the only reason there hasn't been one yet is that the last budget was missing many line items and whole departments. i am sure that this year the taxes will "catch up" with all of the ridiculous expenditures (including cars a year and a half ago, and new cars last year to replace the cars they just bought) our village employees have already gotten raises after less than a year on the job.

beware beware beware. you've been warned.
