The race card should never have been raised by anyone. Kudos to both sides for pointing out that this is not a racial matter.
The petition hearing is being heard on 02/22/10. The decision of whether or not the petition will be considered valid is the only item on the agenda. This is NOT a public hearing on taxes, code enforcement, or who will be the mayor. The only subject will be THE PETITION.
maybe someone should have told newsday and the south shore press that this was not a public hearing on these things, since that's exactly what was printed in today's paper and i'm sure many people have read it and plan to come to this meeting

The news media sometimes make mistakes. There will be announcements at the meeting that describe the exact process being handled on the night of 02/22/10.

The purpose of this meeting, which is dictated by village law, is to have the Town Supervisor, Mr. Mark Lesko, determine if the petition for incorporation is valid. Some of the arguments could be: are there enough signatures, are the signers registered voters in the boundaries of the proposed village, etc.

The MBVEC used only highly trained petition volunteers and they verified each signer was also registered to vote. They also went way beyond the needed 20% of all registered voters, just in case someone's name is disputed for any reason.

I am proud to have been involved in collecting these signatures. The village of Mastic Beach will put a polish on this gem of a community.

I am amazed that you incorporated village people really believe you have this to be a done deal.I still am very sceptical about how it is going to go.I give all of you credit but I believe there still aint enough positives to make me side with a yes vote. But then again there is still some more time left for consideration. Its the same people fighting back and forth on this forum.Lets hear from some new viewers either for or against the village.I respect everyones opinion. Thanks

Unfortunately, in any organization or town, there are those who make things HAPPEN and do the work, and others who watch things HAPPEN, and the majority say WHAT HAPPENED?

Do not expect to see many other readers of this blog. Most people are decided one way or the other. Apathy is rampant. Just wait for the Mar 9 special election to see which politico wins the seat of the late Keith Romaine. I doubt there will even be 10% of the registered voters showing up.

The village election may be different, but remember this, it is decided by one vote. If only 500 people vote, you only need 251 votes to decide the outcome.

Thanks Einstein, I was unsure how the voting process worked.

I noticed one thing about the village webites. If you post negatives a few times your posts will be deleted. This must be a brainwashing technique used by them so on their site people see all positive comments. I want this site dedicated to the anti-village homeowners and renters [yes renters I even want to know your input I am not pro village--you count in our community you live here to].I am against the village for numerous reasons.1] Qualification of the village personnel--I do not want a learn while you earn administration at my life’s investment.2] Though there will be no village tax the first year or 2[the 2nd year I feel doubtful].It will filter in quite rapidly. Why? They will want to set up a new village hall [which we now pay in Brookhaven taxes]a liability policy [which we now pay in Brookhaven taxes Company cars [which again we now pay in Brookhaven taxes] administration positions like mayor/receiver of taxes accountants clerks [which we now pay in Brookhaven taxes]. To pay for these buildings/upkeep/utilities/sal aries and employees health care/business expenses and other enormous costs again for the 2nd time are going to come out to more than the $140 or $150 dollars a year from each household. This is like you taking car insurance out for your cars with 2 companies with the identical coverages. This is ludicrous. On discussion day my advice is do not show up. Let it be a support group day between the town and the village members. We have nothing to gain only grief and frustration. The town is trying to push the village down our throats also. Why? Easy answer less responsibility which is what I am fighting for. They figure fools if that’s what you want I am all for it. They will have less of an area to watch over losing just a couple of dollars. The math just doesn’t cut it. We will come out of the woodwork on election day and show both the town and the failed incorporation that we did stand strong and unified and we will start making it known that if our elected official do not take control and take care of our code enforcement problems there will be no chance of re-election for them in our yes our town.

Since Mayor Paul Pontieri and his trustees came into power they gave themselves a 110% raise, on top of this my village taxes have gone up over 50% since this moron of a mayor and his trustees came into power, these people need to be tarred and feathered!!!!!!!

Hi,

I made a "mistake" a few years ago. I was 29, she was 16 (looked 17). Anyway, I need a place to live. I heard there were cheap rentals in this town. I don't drive, because I made another mistake a few years ago (who knew LI Ice Tea had alcohol), so I need to be near a bus and taxi. I don't work, so the landlord will need to accept whatever I get from Social Services. And the house must have room for my occasional overnight friends, who I met a few years ago, when I paid for my "mistake".

Don't let Mastic Beach become MISTAKE Beach! Vote yes for the village, I AM.

And this is from a village that is a 100 years old! What do you think will happen to a brand new village and a mayor with a ton of new money from all those "code violations" that they predict? I picture a six year old in a candy store left overnight, alone, pillaging from the funds at the MB taxpayers expense!

What does any of this made up dream of yours have to do with Mastic Beach? Are you saying that all the people that live in MB are a bunch of drunk, out of work, non-driving child molesters? You should put that on your MBVEC web site to attract more voters to your cause.
As I have said before, you people at the MBVEC do more for our cause to squash the village chances than any of us could! Keep on posting and calling all the people of MB a bunch of losers, it really helps!!

I'm curious if the people of the MBVEC would even consider holding a debate with the opposition to a village? I bet they wouldn't! I bet that there is NO CHANCE AT ALL that they would consider a debate! That way, they would actually have to listen to an opinion other than theirs and respond to it. Hold it somewhere else other than the fire house, because we all know if you ask a question while a meeting is going on, you WILL get shouted down!

So how about it MBVEC, willing to put your money where your mouth is?

I say ,they say NO! Why, because they are scared to admit that they don't have all the answers that they pretend to have!

If they say yes, we can make it happen. Who would like to see that?

Special election March 9 for our Councilman.Dan Panico seems like a good candidate. He is going to fight to cut taxes which is the opposite goal of the Village which is raise our future taxes. He is going to enact a zero tolerance policy against absentee landlords, illegal houses and over saturation of sex offenders and sober homes. He is going to attain this goal as part of the Brookhaven taxes that we pay.Great Guy----- this I am all for.Lower taxes and getting the job done within the Town Of Brookhaven.

Some in Patchogue pay that much. But, remember, the village of Patchogue has it's own police, highway, garbage and other municipal services which Mastic Beach will not be assuming control over. And Patchouge has been a village for more than 50 years, so it has had grown in size. Mastic Beach will only be taking control of the zoning, and code enforcement issues, with the money currently being paid to town being returned to the village. No additional cost to US.

Yes [above post]it will be only the beginning year or less of no taxes.Lets go a litter further and watch your incorporated tax bill grow along with your Brookhaven taxes.Enough is enough.I like to add another factor.I hope you are still not waiting for your star rebate check to come in the mail.Did'nt you have plans for that nice check when it came in.Well I have even more bad news for you The Star rebate on your present tax bill is also in jeopardy.Shortly you probably will be paying up to another $1000 in your tax bill as you know the state is going bankrupt. This is factual. When the star credit goes it gets reattached to your taxes and now you also want to add village taxes on top of that.Seniors you get star enhanced so you are really going to get burnt. At senior meetings and clubs many of your friends have no computer access so you should pass this info along to your friends and colleagues. They keep jamming no tax policy down your throat.Well I say tell me a village that has been in existance for 5 years that pays not additional village tax?People of Mastic Beach don't hold your breath on that question. The pro village people will say I am using scare tactics as thats what they say when they have no answers for factual questions being put to the test.I say I am reporting the truth.Yes we do need change not just here but everywhere but the laws have to change at the federal/state level for us to make progress at the lower level of government.
