Lousy, over-rated area. Chestertown has always been a pit and Washington College has long suffered rep as over-priced, under-performing lib arts institution that wealthy kids have as #4 or 5 backup school to get into. Plus Salisbury as academic and athletic entity has now surpassed the Shoremen. Glorified over-hyped story about dying county virtually no one wants to move to.

Thank god no one wants to build there, Deebers. Now we don't have to fight with anyone about developing agricultural fields to build trashy, cookie cutter homes on what used to be farmland. Oh, wait, that's happening all over Maryland where, "no one wants to move to." Open your eyes.

I'll taking Chestertown over Owings Mills any day of the week!!!!

At least Chestertown has a lot of amazing history, while Owings Mills is simply an overdeveloped waste land.

Actually, it is good for Kent County for the Deebers of the world to say what they're saying and for others to believe them.

Ask the County Commisioners and the Mayor of Chestertown about 'Crack Corner' on Calvert Street. Lotsa wannabe thug boys wathing too much of 'The Wire'. They wanna be just like tyhe Philly and B'more gangstas. Too bad their bling isn't real. Thank God those of us in the rural parts (85% of the county) like to hunt.(That means shot guns).

When I lived in Kent County, I really loved its sense of community, the close-knit feel of the neighborhood, and though there is an "outsiders OUT" mentality about some of the old-timers, people I met were for the most part welcoming, and friendly - and the town officials!!! What wonderful people. Mark Mumford is a really nice, family oriented guy who got along with all of our family, including our then infant son. Mayor Bailey is someone you could approach on the street and talk for a while with, as is Senator Gilchrest. Such great people!! Such a great place. If our family could have sustained itself in Kent County, I would still be there today.

First off, I now live in Stevenson in plush Greenspring Valley area - you know of the highest per capita income living areas in surrounding Baltimore area.

Agree w/you that Owings Mills is a "wasteland of overdevelopment". But back to Chestertown - for a city of a couple thousand - even that place has hood/ghetto area. The ONLY nice thing Kent county has low marina fares in Rock Hall. Other then that, there is NOTHING engaging about it.

I always enjoy the people that live out there commenting that "they'd rather live no where else". Fine, you can have it...I'll take St Michaels area or DE beaches ANY day over Kent or Queens county.

This is hilarious that some liberal knuckleheads out there are defending it...people, your fellow Dems are in short abundence all over the shore, except in run-down areas in Cambridge and Salisbury and UMES.

Please tell me what the "amazing history" is of Chestertown is???

Really - I'd like to know. The tea dumping party back in the day during the revolutionary war? Maybe the OVER-exaggeration of George Washington visiting there ONE time and the town (and then school) aggresively naming itself after he left a "small endowment", more like a charity gift to an area that was ANYTHING but pleasant. It was hardly a village even but a bunch of shacks along the river.

Please read up on your history, Amanda. "Amazing history" - please re-educate me on this one or have you been reading the Kent County tourist website???

umm... don't tell anybody about these places, Mr. Baltimore Sun.

Obviously, if Deebers comes over here, we will lock him/her in the root cellar and beat him/her with a switch for saying such nasty things.

I know Cooky is no liberal, she'll come back and help both the ganstas and rednecks beat you for talking smack and then send you back to the western shore crying for mama.

But at least my "mama" aint' my sista, honey-bud.

Inbreeding on da shore is 3rd highest in US, right behind West Virginia and Kentucky.

I do like most of my shore friends but most tend to be slow-moving and dim-witted.

And I'm the LAST person to call "Mr Baltimore Sun"...this paper reeks. Only read it Sunday cause its only one local and has good cartoons/funnies section. Plus it supplies my kitty litter for 3-4 weeks.

Deebers, you're a pompous, arrogant tool and you have absolutely no class. I pity your neighbors in the upscale community you shamelessly brag about.

Do let us poor 'Shore rednecks know when you'll be coming east again...'Cause I'll be sure to rustle up a mob of happy inbreds with too much time on their hands to meet you at the bridge...

Heh Chester River Girl (yikes, I can imagine you're a fun date)- I have home in Fenwick Island and go there often. I luv parts of the shore and been going for yrs.

As I've said, I only go to Kent/Queens area if absolutely necessary, ie someone wants cheaper marina rates at Rock Hall or Warton - or if somebody HAS to take me hunting w/them. Other then that, I find that part of shore desolate and pretty much lacking in many essentials for everyday culture.

I did use to play vs Shoremen in lax and we always chuckled that they thought of themselves something special, until we (Gettysburg) or Salisbury Brutally wip'em good.

Look, when the best places in three counties to visit is Chestertown, Galena, Centerville and lovely Elkton - you've got serious deficiencies. As I told my son - nice place to visit for afternoon - but only reinforces where you don't want to be living long-term.

Enough said on this - getting old and redundant. Chester Girl - please don't have the yocals walking the bridge again - old jaywalking law was put in yrs ago for that very things as a bunch of old-timers redneckers thought they could do walk across inebriated, only to plunge off side...sad but true.

Although you seem so knowledgable about The Eastern Shore, you still have not figured out what a barrier island is. I would love to personally applaud you for destroying valuable ecology and adding to the continuing erosion of our state. And yet, I'm sure I'll foot the bill for rebuilding in your house due to a storm. You must be so proud!!
