addah boy roger clough, superintendant of massena central schools. you are the first person in your position willing to step up to the plate and try to get a hold of the teachers. some are trouble makers and holier than though. they hide behind the rally cry of "its all about the kids. bullcrap, we know who the good teachers are, who actually care about the kids and appreciate their job security and benefits. its great to be in america where if you can get your tenure after three years youre set for life? are they teachers or supreme court justices. roger is the boss, period, some say he's on a power trip? i say he's addressing his problem employees. maybe he cant say it, but thats the way i see it from the names and the moves. are you on list? ask yourself why, pick yourself up and fix the problems before you teach my kids next year, they deserve the best.

I totally agree with this statement. Its a pretty sad situation when so many people are losing jobs...GM, alcoa, those teachers already layed off, etc. If you put the 15+ people from MCS that have already been told they are not going to have a job in September in front of those bitching about moving grades/schools/classes, any of the 15+ would jump on the opportunity no matter where it lands them...its a shame so many are not looking at it that way!

why are the teachers so upset? they have thier jobs and are not complaining about thier pay, they are getting thire raises and free health insurance. Mike ashley science teacher at the junioe high is thire spokes person. he was the teacher that got aressted several times for beating up his wife and then sent to jail and to a mental institution> the superintendent should move him. The teachers are selfish and only thinking of themeseves so what you got moved try being let go at GM and Alcoa. The superintendent should fire all of them and put people who want to teach in the schools and appreciate the job they have. I know my former plant buddys would like an opportunity to work. Get over teachers no one feels sorry for you looks what is happeniong in Massena! If you dont like it quit and move!

Your right they don't deserve the mid 40K pay they get. High School Diploma, Bachelors Degree and then a Masters Degree. Get real, they earned the education and took a job that does not pay what it should given the requirements. Additionally, what relevance is it that Mr. Ashley was arrested several years ago during a stressful time in his life. This has not a thing to do with the argument. As for your former plant buddy I am sorry he is out of work. The current economic situation is horrible and I wish everyone back to work. Perhaps he can go back to school and become a teacher. Granted it is about half the pay of a GM job and 6 more years of school is needed.

I agree with you all the way! I know of one teacher at Nightengale who was the best and nicest teacher. She got the dumping ground kids who had learning difficulties or behavior problems while some of the golden teachers didn't have to get any. I saw she was moved out of that snob hole. I am so glad for her!

Yes everyone does have prolems sometimes. It sounds like this teacher needs some counseling possibly. These teachers complaining should be glad to have a job period. If Alcoa goes down some of these complainers won't have to worry. They need to smell the coffee. I believe the low test scores in school should not be blamed on the "town's economic status" all of the time by the teachers. That is scapegoating. That is getting old. The teachers are certainly a part of what is going on. They should be less concerned with their little clicky groups for lunch and more concerned with teaching the children equally. It shouldn't matter what side of town a child comes or came from.
I came from the bad side of town. I am honestly proud to say I did not have a scholarship handed to me on a silver platter like some of the kids at MCS do today. I have a good education and it wasn't because Massena Central steered me there either. It was because I persevered and succeeded on my own. The counselors when I was in school were not very good for directing the students about anything period. Everything was sports and sports and more sports. Things sucked at that time too but in a different way. At least I can say teachers taught from new books not something 30 years old or from photocopies like has been done in most recent years. By the way whoever the committee of teachers who has been picking out the textbooks have been doing a lousy job the past 10 or 12 years. The math textbooks especially do not give very good examples of what kids are suppose to be doing for lessons.

I am a tecaher in the district. I am very upset how this is being handled by my collegues. We are preofessionals. Mike Ashley is not our spokes person. He told lies in his editorials and speaking about lies. I can honestly say that many of my collegues support the moves and appreciate we are here. We are teachers and can teach anywhere. I am very upset that we are "rallying" are teachers for some solidarity on the last day of school. Shame on us. I know that the majority of teachers do not support this and we feel very intimidated by the "minority Teachers" and the union who are pushing this. I know many teachers have talked to Mr. Clough and he did take time to meet with them and explain why and how this occurred, including me. He has always told us has an open door policy and he does. He is really looking out for our kids, district and community. In our contract we are guaranteed a position not a building. We know we can be moved. It is fine as long as we are teaching. Mr. Clough has implemented many changes that needed to be done! I am not saying I agree with all of them but at least he is trying to move Massena ahead and keep the great programs we have , while also trying to start new ones. Ex. JK Pre K Alt Ed etc. He also has kept us posted on things that are occuring. This never occured with our last superintendent. You cannot fault our superintendent for that! I also do not think people realize that if he stopped these programs more teachers would be out of work. I support Mr. Clough as my superintendent and I know thier are many more that like the direction he is taking us. I am hoping that the majority will also speak up and defend our district from these many lies. I also would like to see our union listen to the majority of people who support Mr. Clough and the changes. There are many more pro teachers for the changes than the negative ones. It is time to unite and move on. I am proud to teach at Massena Central.

It is too bad that the teachers union is making thier teachers do this. Are they listening to theier brothers and sisters? I have many teachers friends and they are telling me it is not that bad. Mr. Clough is not breaking any contractual issues. They are thinking it is good for some of the teachers to get a change they need it. They are certified in thier area and should be able to teach in any area they are certified. If they can't they maybe they should not be teaching. The union is not telling the true story to its members or to the public. Why are they making this such a big issue? They have jobs! Hello have you seen the economy? Why are they so upset. My teacher friends are telling me they are afraid to go against the union , not Mr. Clough, they are afraid of being blackballed. Many teachers have made threats and been loud to those who disagreee with the union. The non tenure teachers are afraid to even speak and many feel they are lucky to be teaching and care less what they are teaching. Mike Ashley being one, no one wants to say anything to him because he is mentally unstable. A lot of junior high teachers are embarassed by his actions and wish the union would shut him up. The teachers are scared of thier jobs being lost because of the economy and feel the last budget Mr. Clough proposed saved some jobs because he saved some programs. The union should stop thier lies and be glad they are working.Listen to the other teachers that work with you and you will find this is ridiculous. As for parents they need to let the principals do thier job along with the superintendent anf the board. I do not want parents or students deciding where ateacher teaches, what they teach and who they can teach. Let smove on. That is what the teachers want and do not need the bad press for thier district. Start listening and stop the lies.

If the teachers that were moved don't like it they can go apply at mcdonalds....although I don't even think they are hiring during this economic crisis. Its called embracing change people. If you cannot embrace and adapt to change how do you expect to be an educator. Real professionals piss and moan in the closet while drinking booze about change. Learn to paste a smile on for every other situation.

Why not say if Roger doesn't like what going on then he should move elsewhere. Why are you defending someone making $105K a year?

Doug Huntley made $170,000 a year and he has life insurance policies that are making money all of the time. He really took Massena for a ride. You people are crazy. Roger Clough is trying to make things better for the students. That is why teachers are there isn't it???

One of these great moves is to put his buddy, Rick Norris, in the High School Assistant Principal position. The only problem is that Norris does not have the degree to support this move. So now he goes back to school. Oh, could he be the next Principal, most probably.

Are you serious that is all he makes? I think we got a deal then. I know teachers that are making over $90,000 in the Massena School system. Mr. Huntley made over $200,000 and had investments from the district, and a retirement from the district.Mr. Clough works 360 days a year, runs the whole district, reaponsible for every child and employees, has to be available all the time and a teacher dworks 183 days, and he has to work 24 hours a day and put up with this crap? He must love his job.....maybe it shows a comiitment to our children. I have a new respect for him.

Who is making 90,000, sounds like BS. Don't lie to make your point seem more valid, just make your argument with the truth. I don't believe the salry scale goes to 90,000 for a teacher.

Some of the moves are good, some don't make sense. He should be honest though, none of the moves were driven by finances, it was to break some groups up, which is fine, just be upfront about it. They can move anyone they want. Doing it with the union leadership, or warning them, would have saved some stress, but wasn't necessary.

I am writing on behalf of many high school, junior high , and elementary teachers. While having coffe this morning a teacher called me and told me to look at this sight in disgust! Do you know Rick Norris? He has the hardest job in the district. If you talked to him he tell you he is not really thrilled about going the the high school as the assitant principal. He is really dedicated to his position he is at. This is where the problem begins you have teachers that do not want to teach at the Alternative Education School because they will have to work and can't teach the smart kids ( A math teacher is the biggest vocal anto alt ed person, who is being moved). Mr. Norris wants to stay at the Alternative school but has to go to the high school because that is where he is needed. That is apparent after some of the teachers I work with statred this anti campaign against the district , superitendent and parents. Belive me it is a minority it is that they are being heard right now. We are lucky to have the Alternative program because without it more teachers would be laid off. If I was placed there I would be happy just to have a job and I am a veteran teacher. I do not usually comment on these topics but when I see Mr. Norris being lied about it is enough. Many high school teachers feel the same way. He is dedicated to his job. Maybe our teachers should look at him and lead by his example. He is being moved to help the district and hopefully straighten out the our teachers attitudes and help students at the high school. As for his certification, the district has done this several times before. I hope this will end soon, teachers are getting a bad reputation. I sometimes wonder if the teachers are worried because he will tell you how it is. As for our superintendent he is a good person with good intentions and a plan for our studnets. He is our leader and I and many other believe in him and what he is doing. I have talked to him and know his intentions are to save teachers jobs and give our students the best education possible. Look already what he has done for our district to improve our educational system. You might not like change, but we have to respect the changes he is trying to implemment. We definetly need it at the high school. I will continue to say positive things about our district and I am very glad Mr. Norris is coming to the high school. I will also support our superintendent. I do not like the fact our union is using parents and students to help this campaign . There are so many mis facts. Lets move on and come together as a district. Stop the fighting and I hope our union will start listening to the postive teachers.

Ask your veteran teachers that are coaching, doing extra curricular activities etc. This not a lie! The highest paid teachers are making more than the principals and directors and they pay for thier health insurance. Know you facts before you write in accuracies! Do your reasearch before you put mis information out. Did you?

Roger Clough is at it again. Using his position (which he is grossly under qualified for) to settle personal grudges with any MCS personnel who do not agree with him. He promotes, demotes, and re-assigns based on the buddy system. Rogie is a pathetic little man on a power trip & by far the worst superintendent Massena has ever seen. YES, even worse than Doug Huntley! Look at the dropout rate in Massena & all the drama in the short amount of time he has been the superintendent. Time for Change!
