My time warner bill just went up to 185.17 per month. I called direct tv and they said they could do a full bundle of tv, internet, and phone for 77.98?

Does anyone have direct tv and do you like it?

I'd like to know opinions of current subscribers.

Thanks

I'm pretty sure that is a promotional price for a year or two, I'd check with them and see what the price would be after the promotional period ends.

Get rid of cable and pocket that money. Get rid of your smart phone and get a prepaid and pocket that money as well.

Congratulations, you've just saved over $200 a month doing virtually nothing.

Now go to YouTube and type in "cable alternatives" or "Internet tv" or some other search term.

Take a vacation at the end of the year with the money you saved.

I switched to Direct tv and I like it. The promotional price is good but even after the promotion is done I would still be saving money. You do still get local channels but the only downfall I see from it all is relearning all the different channels. Also if you refer people you can save an additional $100 ($10 off bill for 10 months). I am not sure the limit of people you can refer but I feel it's well worth the transition.

I agree 100% with the comment above. My family and I have been very happy with Direct TV. They are much easier to deal with as far as customer service. I am glad we switched over.

We have had Direct TV for almost three years. Customer service is great, you can pick your packages, they have PPV, and if you have a computer and haven't switched to Vonage yet, well...but there are some locations where the receiver can't get the signal for internet. You'll need to check with them about it. It really is time for a consumer revolution. Come on ....$185 a month for Time Warner?$230 a month for phone service? It's bad enough we are paying $4 bucks a gallon for gas and nearly $10 bucks a pack for smokes. REALLY?

I wish I could go to direct T.V but place I live won't allow the dish, I hate time warner, we've went threw near 20 box's in the 2 years we have been with them and near 10 different prices. Nothing is good about it. Can't wait to get to a place where I can get a dish and call time warner and tell them to go to hell!

We had DirectTV and switched to DISH because we weren't watching half of the programming they were charging us for. When we called to see if we could get a cheaper package they told us we could but we'd have to sign a 2 year contract and if we wanted to switch back to the other package there'd be a penalty for breaking the "contract". They also told us that none of the other tv providers could give us the local stations (we were paying an extra $11 a month for the "local" stations (FOX, ABC, etc).
WE switched to DISH. Our bill is $20 cheaper and we only lost two channels we watched on a regular basis, we did indeed get our local channels for no extra charge, plus we have a DVR. With DirectTV we would have paid another $8 for the dvr on top of the $80/month. Our bill now is $60/month.
DirectTV was ok. We found a better deal with DISH and we haven't had any problems with them (almost 3 years now).

Directv is the bomb....anything else is 2nd rate...ive had Time warner and dish...i get all my locals and more HD channels especially full time HD channels...you pay extra for extra receivers regardless who th provider is....but Dish charges more per extra receiver...direct's technology is one step ahead of dish and has many more viewers...satisfied at that...oh and locals are free on direct tv...the difference is if youre a new customer or present customer as to the deals you get...it is constantly evolving and directv is number one in tech and guaranted reception

Directv in this area has a better angle than Dish when connecting with the dish itself....giving Directv an advantage of having a more realiable picture and the advantage of easier placement

Where do you live that doesn't allow a dish? This federal law may apply to you. http://www.fcc.gov/guides/over-air-reception-...

I had DirecTv and actually switched back to TWC. I pay $34.99 a month for what is equivalent to the current DTV Choice plan. I pay an additional $11 a month for the HD box. $45.99 a month every month and I leave anytime I want. The exact same setup with relatively same content is $47.99 a month on DTV. This is actually a HUGE lie when you add in the nearly doubling of price the second year. The cost then becomes a whopping $62.99 when averaged out over the 2 year contract. Add another year at regular prices and you can add another $10 a month to the cost PER MONTH.Stay another year and add another $7.50 a month. After 5 years the original savings you get from the promotional price nearly disappears as you are incredibly overpaying vs. TWC. If I were to stay with DTV for the minimum contract length it would cost me over $400 more. If you stay three years you are overpaying by $972. That is the price of a NICE NEW LED TV to watch your TWC with. If you are an entertainment junkie, as I was when I had DTV, the higher tiers and extras that come with DTV are nice. If you are looking for basic service DTV is a huge rip off.

I've lived at my present address since 1980. My neighbors and I have petitioned Time Warner many times over the years and they will not bring us service...unless we want to pay a fortune and then if we were to move we do not get that money back. I've gone from antenna to Prime Star to DirecTV...Time Warner can stuff their service. I have great station selection, most are HD too. My DVR holds 100 hours - many that I have saved, ie concerts, fav movie etc. Customer service is fantastic - especially since we are such long time customers. I will say that SLIC just finished running service to our area and 3 neighbors have signed onboard with them. I am going to wait to see how their bundleing and service work out...TV, Phone and internet. One reader ?? about losing service due to weather w/DirecTV...there have been the odd times that a real heavy rain blocks the signal or we have had to wipe the dish when wet sticky snow builds up, but in over 20 years w/the dish it probably averages out to 2 or 3 times a year and with the rain it's never for more that a few minutes. Actually we only had a snow issure once this winter. Never had DISH so I can't speak in regards to their service or pricing. Good luck with whatever choice you make.

If you like sports be prepared to pay though. You get espn with any package but to get sunday ticket nfl you cant have they 29.99 package they always advertised, nor can you have nhl network or nba tv, if you like hockey nbc sport network is unattainable without highes package. So for sports fans the satellite is pretty ridiculous, the advertised cheap dish prices are more for people who just like to watch simple shows. If your a sport fan just stick with cable cause you can just add those channels and or they already have them with basic hd. Directv with lock you in to two years with cheap price for packages that come with any real sports channels so that second year you end up paying 90 dollars a month for channels you get with just a normal cable subscription.
