as usual in america, the vicims' rights end up being ignored.what about the mother, who's now painfully aware that someone is capable of doing harm to that which she holds most dear.and what about that 3 year old,how do you thinks she feels now, knowing that strangers may do some wrong to her.i know she doesn't realize it like an adult would, but i guarantee she's picked up on the fact that mommy was really scared and mad.show me one mother who wouldn't be outraged at this, had it been done to her.and as usual on topix, people feel that those who disagree with them are idiots or stooges.people need to realize, others can disagree with them, and still want the same results.disagreement does not mean nor should it mean one is an enemy, because he doesn't see things your way.

Kids today are spoiled rotten by their parents. When we were young we didn't do the things kid are doing today because WE KNEW we would have to face consequences for our actions. Look at all the vandalism in town and all the school shootings in the US. Kids during our time DID NOT act like this. I would love to know what kind of punishment she faced from her parents when they found out she was threatening bodily harm to someone for 8 months. Probably nothing so why not do this to the 3 year old she knew her parents wouldn't do anything about it. I had a friend whose daughter used my credit card when she was around 15 and her mother did nothing, didn't ground her, didn't take computer, video games, phone from her didn't make her pay the money back and guess what she did it again to me when she was around 16 and did it to 4 other people later in life. She went through the court system and has a record for life for being a thief. If her mother would have only disciplined her the first time .........

LOL you people are to much she went from a prankster to a possible murderer who has sex in 24 posts. Stop watching so many stupid movies and just THINK if you can without setting off the smoke detector.
You people need to relax. She pulled a prank. She didn't kill anyone for crying out loud. Sounds like the judge is a butthole anyway.

Yea! Just like that little 8 yr old boy who got expelled for kissing his female classmate! He is a sexual predator! Let's lock up all the little bastards who didn't have a good upbringing because people like us are their parents! Youth is not an excuse. If you give these kids a chance to grow up without breaking their spirit they will be bucking broncos forever! If they like to cut hair, kiss, or make a toy gun out of their finger and go "pow pow", bust em! It starts out with the finger gun toy and before you know it they are all serial killers and terrorists. Lock em up!! And humiliate them! Their bitter resentment will only help our society.

look it's not just her cutting the hair,it's the fact she lured the girl away to do it,now imagine how you would feel if someone did this to your 3 yr. old.also don't forget she pled guilty to calling and harassing and threatening to mutilate someone over an 8 month period.this is not normal behavior, plus she also pled guilty to other inappropriate behavior.this information has been published in several reputable newspapers.yes,i think her punishment was too severe, but to just say get over it and call it a childish prank is doing this young lady no good.i want her to get help so she can grow up and be a productive member of society.i also wonder if this had been a 13 yr old boy doing this to a 3 yr.old girl would the reaction be the same, and he was a good sized boy too boot.

one more thing, also far from perfect, very far actually,at 13 i knew enough not to lure a 3yr old away and cut their hair with a pair of scissors.while i don't support nor have ever practiced corporal punishment,my parents didn't have the same view, and i would have gotten a good spanking for it.not a beating, but a spanking.

At a May 28 hearing, Lopan entered admissions in the assault case, as well as another case stemming from eight months of phone calls she made to another teen in Colorado that included threats of rape and mutilation, according to an audio recording of the hearing provided to the Deseret News by Bruno.

Johansen called the girl's behavior "egregious." He ordered her to serve 30 days in detention, pay restitution to her victims and serve 276 hours of community service.

im glad she had to cut her hair too. I mean, think about how embarrassed the poor girl is who got her hair cut by this little terror. In my opinion, this is the kind of thing that shows a mental UNstability. She needs help. U don't cut someones hair for no reason. Thats like setting a mouse on fire or cutting it up.

I can't believe a 13 yr old would get that kind of sentence and strip searched. Now come on, what would she be hiding up her "behind". I know drug dealers that get off with less. God, what is this world coming to anyways. That dude next to the deli got caught with how many lbs. of pot and he didn't even get that much.

i also agree her sentence was too harsh, now having said that and keeping in mind, she was being sentenced after pleading guilty to cutting hair and 8 months of phone harassment which included threats of mutilation, how would you have punished her.i would have made her clean the court house restrooms for a month, working 3 hrs.a day at it.as for the strip search,if she had hidden something, and harmed herself or someone else, what would your reaction have been?13 yr olds have been known to kill people,it doesn't happen often.but it does happen.and would you feel the same way if your 3 yr. old daughter had been the victim,or your child hadbeen subjected to 8 months of phone harassment?

She lured away a three year old without the knowledge and consent of the toddlers parents. That's kidnapping. The hair cutting, which is the least of what she did, is considered assault. She needs to be shown that if you behave like a criminal then you will be treated like a criminal. It's probably the first time shed ever had real consequences. She deserves every minute she got. 13 is not a child, it's more than old enough to have fully understood what she was doing. That was not a prank. Normal 13 year olds don't play pranks on toddlers that involve kidnapping and assault. A normal prank is jumping out from behind a chair and yelling 'boo'.
