I heard that the Slavins building has a good offer on it and the town is jerking the buyer around on it. Is this true? I thought they wanted to sell it and have it turned into something nicer than what it is now.
I know that building is full of aspestose and needs a lot of work. They need to get what they can out of it fast before it gets worse.

No, It's not true. The truth is the property will not be sold for less that it's appraised value. Nobody is getting jerked around.

I was told that the buyer wants to pay less than the appraised value. The taxpayers are into it for a lot more than appraised value so it's only fair that it's sold for appraised value. The village cannot make a profit on it by law but they aren't going to give it away either.

Didnt they apraise it before they found out that the aspestose was in it and that they can not build on the empty lot next to it without rebuiling the whole foundation over again?

I am trying to find out for a friend that wants to put an offer in on it and to be honest I think I would get a better answer from this sight than out of our local government. They should come down on it and sell it to a person that will do something with it to imrove that part of town. If it sits to long it will never sell and will only cost the tax payers more. We knew it was a bad investment in the first place and did not expect to get what we put into it so the fast it sells the better.

You have to take into consideration that almost a half million dollars of taxpayers money was used to tear down the other 2 buildings and cart away debris and fill the holes. No matter what condition it is in now, the buyer will take ownership "as is", at the appraised value and no less. That property is a bargain at the appraised price which I believe is somewhere in the 74K range. It's an aluminum building and will not decay. Eventually someone will buy it and accept the conditions where you will need a development plan for the use of the property. You are right, it should sell, but I don't think the village board will approve any offer that is below the appraised value.

Mike Slavin stuck it to many people. We took him to court and won. It is filed in Canton. The amount he owed us goes up triple or more we were told by the court. We will never see our money and he owed us thousands. We have to take our losses. Just keep holding on and it will cost the tax payers more money. You are trying to sell something full of asbestos??? Oh my. You should take the offer and be thankful.

I think it might be against the law for the board to take any offer owned by the tax payers for less than what its appraised for.

We didn't win. We lost. We (the taxpayers) should have let the county deal with it. McNeil didn't do us any favors by giving the village that property. It's not full of asbestos. That land and remaining building is a hell of a deal for appraised value. If you had any idea about real estate you would realize this.

<quoted text>tell your mayor friend to sell the darn thing. get it back up. the appraiser is greedy. its not worth the price.$50,000 back on the tax rolls! he is being jerked around! I would drop it if i was mayor to get it back on the tax rolls and renovated. the price is too darn high and it will just sit and rot! stop being greedy village officials. get rid of it for $50,000. your all stupid including the appraiser who doesnt even live in the area. drop it! i'm sure droopy will not agree due to his butt buddy mayor friendship.
The other 2 lots go with it. The taxpayers are into it for nearly 400k. Getting 75K back is still a slap in the face for it but it will not be sold for a penny less than appraised value from what I am told. Again, another clueless individual who has no conception of the whole picture. Your tax dollars are repaying the bond to demolish the other 2 buildings.

That place has been full of bird droppings, rats, mice, and other vermin for years. It stinks of mildew and filth.I would't give 2 cents for it.If anyone is offering anything for it, the town should be happy and take it.

Personally, I think the parcel would have been more attractive to buyers without the remaining building. The building is made mostly of aluminum and the inside can be cleaned and floors replaced. Eventually, someone will pay the appraised value. The village is not cash strapped where they need to sell it.

I do, but I wouldn't buy it. I think it would be the perfect location for the Chamber of Commerce and BDC downstairs and upstairs could be storage, and or a Data Center . That parcel has a lot of possibilities.

If it was worth anything, building, land,(riverview?) Dick Maginn would have bought it. But, he didn't because he probably saw little or no value in the building or location.
If whomever buys it will most likely raze the building and utilize the land.
