The disease of addiction does not recognize class boundaries...we are all at risk. The only way to be sure you will never become an addict is to not take that first drug. Help is available, and I hope this woman gets the help she needs. I also hope the lowest crackhead theif you can think of also gets the help he or she needs. Addiction sucks.

Addiction does suck. She isn't the first nurse in the region to do this either. Hospitals need a better inventory system so this cannot happen for 6 months before someone puts 2 and 2 together. I hope she receives treatment and can go on with her life.

For the addict who still suffers, there are 2 weekly Narcotics Anonymous meetings in Massena, and daily Alcoholics Anonymous meetings. Go to a meeting, get some phone numbers of sober people. And when the urge strikes, pick up the phone and call instead of picking up that drug. It's a simple idea that can help you achieve sobriety and find some happiness...one day at a time, one minute at a time.

I agree that she isn't the first and will not be the last I am sure, but it is frightening to know that any one of us could be treated in the E.R. by someone that is messed up on drugs though, and I do believe the community should be aware of the situation...

I have a bit of difficulty swallowing the reality of the volume of people that apparently have a problem with prescription medication.

Is it easier to become addicted to pills simply due to logistics? Does their portability, ease of access, or a lack of the overly negative stigma as would normally be attached to controlled substances such as marijuana, or cocaine make them the "go to" substance?

What if she was on duty and high the day the guy needing pain relief walked into the foyer of the er and shot himself? That would be a sad irony. She's feeling no pain, and he's driven to his death by it. They should piss test everyone handling drugs at the hospital. to much temptation and to many lives at risk.

Another candidate for the prescription drug abuse task force. If she was taking them to help her sleep at home, why was she taking them at the beginning of her shift?

This one is into coke and mj anyways, so now she decided to steal some and get busted. No remorse, no sorrow. Everything has a price.

She'll be back on the floor of good ol MMH and god bless you if she's stoned, and you need critical care.

April is a wonderful nurse and youd be lucky to have her saving your life. People make mistakes, doctors shouldnt give such strong medication when people are sick all it does is create withdrawals or worse addiction. Anyone of us could someday find ourselves in a similar situation. I hope April gets the help and support she will need in this difficult time. It wont help to bash her into the ground, we already know she did it. And for the person who mentioned irony, she wasnt even working that night.

I feel sorry for her and hope she gets the help. Is there two April Lambertons that work up there? I went there last week and I swear that dumb doctor that I had he was from New Jersey, I swear he was on something. He had the nerve to yell at me and ask me what kind of pain killer I wanted. I had a ear infection that wasw very painfull. I told him I don,t know your suppose to be the doctor. I don,t know where they get these rent a doctors but that one definetly needs to go .

April took care of me in the ER and she was wonderful, very compassionate. God bless her. I only hope she gets the same treatment she gave me. Please don't judge her, we don't know why, I only hope she gets well and gets back to her work.
