I have a question, how do you unplugg a clogged ear? I think this is due to a cold I have that I,am taking antibiotics for but this clogged ear is driving me crazy. Had it for about 12 dAYS. I have tried steaming, now trying mucinex, tried the heating pad. I went to the hospital with pain in my ear and they told me it was infected. I have also tried peroxide. no help

They should have given you antibiotic for an infection. Did you try plugging your nose and breathing out hard ??

Mary...I understand as I had a clogged ear (ear infection) last year. I don't want to bum you out but mine lasted for almost 2 months. I tried everything also...including what you wrote. I went to an ear specialist in Potsdam and he put me on antibiotics. If you have insurance that is the way to go. He is a Chinese doctor on Leroy st. The other thing I did to speed up the healing was to visit Bing or Natural Way in the Hart Haven plaza here in Massena. I can't remember what he prescribed to me but all you would have to do is ask him or his staff. I understand the pressure and the pain so try not to procrastinate any longer as it gets worse. Best to you.

The pain from an ear infection is awful. If the antibiotic is not working try going back and getting another one. The ENT in potsdam is Dr.Choonge an the one in ogdensburg is Dr.Schaffer both are good and take all kinds of insurance and medicaid/medicare. Do not let it go to long as you can damage your hearing in the long run.

If its infected they should have given you an antibiotic. You could also be experiencing eustachian tube dysfunction where your ear cannot drain due to swelling and inflammation. A good decongestant like Sudafed, the good stuff behind the pharmacy counter for a few days and or a steroid nasal spray like nasonex or flonase

Thank you everyone. They did give me augmentin and have been on that for about 5 days.I,am going to call Dr. Choong,s office tommorrow. He was not in today wil be back tommorrow. I do have a good insurance so will try to see him when I can get in.I did try holding my nose and blowing and that did not work either. It,s odd tho because my nose is not stuffed and I can breathe there good.

Sometimes when you clean your ears you can push wax up against your ear drum. You can dissolve it with a few drops of mineral oil, sold in drug stores and use a heating pad and that will work or you can go to the doctor and they can try flushing it out. Mineral oil works good for clogged ears if it is wax buildup. I am not a doctor but that has worked for me in the past.

Sudafed is really the way to go, but don't take it if you have high blood pressure or are on any blood pressure meds as it speeds your heart rate!

try a few drops warm (to your wrist) mineral or, baby oil. they do sell those drops at the drug store. if that doesn't work, buy a small baby syring, put in warm water and very gently lavage (rinse ) your ear out. it will bring out chunks of ear wax if it is there. be very gentle when you do this and hold your ear out by the penna (tip)either of these work for me. AND if you get swimmers ear, tip head sideways and put in a cap of peroxide. the peroxide goes under the water and forces it out.

roll up a news paper shape it so one end will fit in your ear the other end light it and the smoke will draw out the pain and cure it. CAUTION DON'T BURN YOURSELF I suggest you do this near a sink it has work in my family for years.

Try a cap full of peroxide. That may help with the wax buildup. Also works when you have water in your ear. Tilt you head and let it sit for a few minutes. Hope that works for you.

DO NOT TRY EAR CANDLING!!!!!! It is a sham! Once I had a terribly plugged ear and after trying various drops and suffering for almost 2 months a friend told me about ear wax candles. I went to a local health store and bought a handful of the waxy tubes. I followed the directions and was amazed at all of the orange wax that filled the end of the tube after a few minutes. But the problem persisted. So I did some research online, trying to find out If I should do 2 in a row....what I learned was shocking. First off the suction produced by burning one end would never be strong enough to draw wax out. In fact u can hold the candle in your hand and the end would still fill up with orange wax, I tried it myself. It's just the wax that It's made out of changing color from the heat. Second, it is very dangerous because wax from the candle could possible drip into your ear. So please don't do it!!!
