so how do you get hired at NYPA? I haven't seen any jobs advertised. yet I know that an electrician who retired from ALCOA (yes, he has a retirement) just got hired at NYPA. He is almost 60 years old. what's up with that?

Even the "older" people need jobs.

I agree with that, but why aren't jobs at NYPA advertised to the public? I'm sure that there are many qualified unemployed electricians who never even had a chance to apply. How do people get hired at NYPA?

Hiring practices at NYPA are different, but job postings are usually made public through their website. If you check it regularly, there is no reason you couldn't apply. A little tip.... if you plan on applying for NYPA, become a registered voter for the party in control of the state, and study like hell for your master electrician's card. Their test is very tough even for good electricians.

YES , you can apply at the power authority, but, you have to know someone at the power authority to get hired there, how they hire, in unfair, they pick who they want to work there no matter how qualified you are. It's very sad.

No different than a state job such as mowing on the side of the highway. It's who writes your reference letters, not so much on your ability to do the job.
