MASSENA – The deadline was yesterday for district residents to file petitions to get on the May 15th ballots for election to school board seats. In Massena, the two incumbents and three newcomers filed petitions for candidacy for two openings. Gregory Fregoe who was elected five years ago and Christen Halladay who has served for three years are both seeking reelection. The newcomers are Patrick Serguson, Loren Fountain and Eva Waters.

Where do these candidates stand regarding extending Roger Cloughs contract with the district?

Forget Fountain! His wife is a teacher and he works for the New York State teachers union - exactly what we DON'T need on the BOE. I'm going with Greg Fregoe - he's been around a long time and knows how to deal with people, and for some new blood - Pat Serguson - a Massena cop who sees first hand what the school system produces - good and bad.

Eva? What a joke. Roger is scraping the bottom of his barrel. Is that the best he can do? Good luck.

Roger doesn't choose who can run on a ballot. Anyone can run for the seats if you meet the criteria. Eva Waters is a nut case and I am surprised Farbotnik didn't try again. Isn't Surg's wife/ex wife a teacher?

I think the "former" resource officer has another axe to grind as well.

I think it is long past due that the BOE members that are elected DO NOT HAVE spouses, sisters, sister-in-laws, brother-in-laws, etc. etc. that are employed by the District. I think this is wrong. Obviously these people have other agendas as well, as much as they say that they don't!!

Yes, his wife is a counselor in the district. She has worked for MCS as a district employee for quite a few years..another conflict of interest. I will vote for only one, Greg, just can't seem to justify pulling the lever for the others...all related to employees. He is level headed, has no axe to grind and has some experience as a BOE member. The others have too many personal vendettas against the district..never a good reason to run.

If you don't like who is running, then run yourself, or get someone to run. Then they just have to get enough votes.

I feel that Greg Fregoe is a man of his own opinions and is not swayed one way or the other. He definitely has my vote. As for the rest of them, I agree.....they all have a personal vendetta or vendettas and should not be running at all.

I wish there were some people in the community, NOT RELATED to district employees (teachers) that would have decided to run.

Droopy, Roger asks his friends to run. Believe me, I know. So yes, he does choose them.

Greg Fregoe is in Roger Cloughs and Lenny Mathews back pocket. He goes along with whatever Mathews, Peretta, LeBire and Clough do or say. He's a strong supporter of Roger Clough as per the newspaper article.

"Pocket Picker".....if you believe everything you read in the newspaper, then I have a bridge to sell you too!! Really.....you can't honestly believe everything you read there!! You probably believe everything you read on FaceBook and Massena TOpix too!!!

The newspaper is so far from the truth sometimes it is unbelievable!!!

As far as Greg Fregoe being in anybody's pocket....I don't think so. Our alternatives for potential BOE members is not good at all!!! At least Greg has no direct relationship to any teacher that works for the District and has some experience under his belt.

I think anyone running for a seat on a local school board deserves some respect! It is a tough job. Personally, I think Greg just doesn't see the big picture in Massena! This once booming town needs true leadership to help it make its way into the future. I would like to see the two newcomers get voted in and offer a new perspective to this board.

You really think someone who works for the state teachers union and has a teacher wife would "offer a new perspective?" really?

Seriously, with statements like that it just doesn't deserve a response but I ask "how can you be so far out of touch with reality"? You must read the newspaper to think its so unbelievable. So you do you read the newspaper?

You're wrong on the FB and MT line........but I do believe what I read in Star and the National Enquirer tabloids though!

Its obvious that they are really no good candidates, that will serve the interest of the community, in a conversation with another fellow concerned citizen regarding the Super and the BOE its apparant that they are both currently disfuntional as a governing system. The Super is way out in left field and the only support he really has is a majority in the BOE he needs to go first and for most, then the BOE in a systematic elections over the next few years needs to honarably step aside and let the district vote in new members with the actual school the students and the budget being their first and foremost agenda not protecting Roger as this BOE is hell bound to do. Time for a change, I did not know of the deadline or I would have run. I have no family or friends who work there. Next time I will be on the list and get the signatures to run and if Roger is still there he will be my number one agenda item as he is not for the students or the districts best interest.

What do you mean by "I think the "former" resource officer has another axe to grind as well."? Is Pat S. not a supporter of Roger for some particular reason?

I agree with you on this. We really need less conflicts on the BOE, yet the elephant in the room is Roger Clough. His presense in the district is deeply divisive and he really needs to go. The problem is we're now forced to elect "conflicted" board candidates in order to insure that Clough is not extended. If only the LeBires, Fauchers, and Fregoes, would do what is best for the district and set aside their misplaced loyalties we could move the district forward in a positive direction
