A Sioux Falls man was cited Monday after four people were injured by two dogs in a span of a few minutes.

Joseph Lenius, 27, who is the owner of the animals, was cited for two counts of animals running at large.

The Sioux Falls Police Department and Animal Control were called to the area of 13th Street and Williams Avenue for a report of a dog bite at about 1:30 p.m. Monday.

According to police, a 53-year-old male was walking in the area when he was attacked by a black and brindle female pitbull and a tan and white male pitbull. A 24-year-old male drove up to the attack and began honking his horn at the dogs to try and break up the attack. When the horn was not effective, he exited his vehicle and was also attacked. A 35-year-old male then came out of his residence in the neighborhood with a large piece of wood, and was able to stop the dog from continuing to attack the first two victims. He was also bitten while trying to stop the attack.

As the dogs were fleeing the area, they encountered a postal carrier who had witnessed the intial attacks and called 911. The dogs also attacked the postal carrier.

When Police and Animal Control arrived, the dogs were located and captured. Both dogs were current with their rabies vaccinations and city licenses, according to police.

The 35-year-old male refused medical treament for his minor injury, the 53-year-old male, 24-year-old male and postal carrier were all treated for nonlife-threatening injuries at a hospital.

So honestly, if this very event were published about labs or goldens, would it have made the news. Take out the word pit and you have two dogs that got away from their owner. Don't know what provoked the attack, but if a male and female are running together, of any breed, they will be protective of each other.
The injuries were not life threatening, the dogs are current in their vaccines and licensing, and the owner was cited.
This is a reach, OCD.

In other happy “tails”...

After four weeks and four days on the loose, Tank is finally home. The black lab mix that made his great escape in the parking lot of a Yorkville veterinary hospital that first week in January is 17 pounds lighter, had a little frostbite, some scratches, ticks and a mangled tail — but “he’s going to be just fine,” said his relieved owner, Renea Selders of Oswego.

More than 800 people followed the hunt for Tank on social media sites. And it was with the help of those passionate dog people that she and boyfriend Greg Zimmerman got Tank home. They knew where he was hiding out and tried unsuccessfully to trap him for weeks. The wily mutt was always able to outsmart them until a new online friend purchased a huge cage, and another dog lover welded together a large step trigger. The contraption, along with a big slab of ham and “really stinky cheese,” got the job done.
