It seems like every employer is on shaky ground but I would be especially leary of jobs in the manufacturing sector.

ALCOA is not going to commit the 900 million. There are not many who believe otherwise. The queson remains what happens when the ALCOA board meets in March and says no the investment.

Itís actually way over 900 million and why wouldnít they? Cheapest power around and it will cost WAY too much money to clean up both plants! All hinges on the EPA plan for Grass River. Get your facts right.

Sorry Luke you should have stayed with yoda to complete your brain!!Alcoa doesn't have to clean up either site!! Thanks to GM all they have to do is file bankruptcy and the Company will not have to pay for it. Also they can idle both palnts and not have to keep up. so get your facts right!!! There will not be any approval from the board. the is a megasmelter in the middle east running full bore putting out 5X the metal that both plants do and with cheap labor.

Have to agree with Mr. Skywalker (let the force be with all of us!). US companies want US made aluminum. We have seen this over the years. Plus logistically it will cost way too much to ship overseas and on time shipments would suffer. UncleAl sounds like a 40 year employee trying to hang on hoping Massena will close so he can get an extra $400 a month in plant closure pay. Typical.

We were told that itís at $9 a share now because it is considered a commodities stock, not a manufacturing stock anymore. The bean counters wanted it that way I guess.

You can wish all you want! Between the grass river clean up(which is going to cost more than projected) and the rising cost of contruction for the east plant the odds of the board giving the OK to build a new potline are slim to none! I'm a skilled tradesman as well and would like to see Alcoa stay here. Realty is the chance of the modernization are not in our favor! Sorry you bought a new house and other goodies and depend on your job to pay for it.You might want to consider option B and lighten your financial situation and prepare for the worst. Good luck!!
