Canton, Ohio
In September 2008, when the City of Canton was in the process of adding American bulldogs to their existing pit bull ordinance (pit bulls are deemed "vicious" under Ohio state law), the Canton Repository published dog bite statistics from the Canton Health Department. From January 1, 2005 to September 2008, pit bulls led biting incidents with 89 bites. German shepherds (including police dogs) followed with 68, mutts with 50 and rottweilers with 33. It must be noted that under a 1991 Supreme Court of Ohio ruling, the court validated that "dogs commonly known as a pit bull dog" includes close breeds such as American bulldogs.

North Texas Cities
In August 2008, The Dallas Morning News reported that one third (33%) of all dog bite incidents from July 2007 to July 2008 in Duncanville, Cedar Hill and Mesquite involved pit bulls. Each of these cities passed resolutions urging the state Legislature to allow breed-specific laws, as lawmakers were hoodwinked by the dog lobby in 1991 and passed a preemptive state-wide anti-BSL measure (822.047). The next closest breeds were German shepherds (9.6%) followed by Labs (9%). While breed population data was not available in this article, it's presumable that the pit bull population is lower than the other two breeds.

Ventura County, California
In July 2008, Ventura County Department of Animal Regulation released a 1-year statistical report (July 2007 to June 2008). The report showed that pit bulls ranked 8th in licensing, but were still the top biter producing 117 biting incidents in this period. Often cited by pro-pit bull groups as the leading biter, Cocker spaniels ranked 6th in licensing, but 8th in bite numbers with only 28 incidents. In September 2008, 5-year old Katya Todesco of Simi Valley suffered catastrophic face and neck injury after she reportedly "bumped into" a pit bull. She died 6 days later. The pit bull mauling death of Katya was recorded as "one biting incident."

El Paso County, Colorado
In May 2008, after a pit bull burrowed under a fence and attacked a 5-year old boy, Ann Davenport of the Pikes Peak Region Humane Society said, "Pit bulls and pit bull mixes have accounted for more dog bites than any other breed in El Paso County this year. They were involved in 216 bites, about 18% of the 1,381 attacks reported. Labrador retrievers were second on the list, with 157 attacks, and German shepherds were third, with 93 bites." The attack occurred in Cimarron Hills, just east of Colorado Springs. The child received 2,000 stitches and underwent two immediate surgeries with many future facial surgeries expected.

Lubbock, Texas
In February 2008, the City and County of Lubbock experienced a "pit bull epidemic," which by March ended in the deaths of 23 animals due to loose pit bulls. The February article provided 2007 Lubbock Animal Services data regarding dog incidents. Of the 247 dog bites, pit bulls accounted for 75 incidents (30%). Labs followed with just 17 incidents (7%) and German shepherds with 15 (6%). Unfortunately, the writers of the article were hoodwinked into the myth that pit bulls are one of the "most popular" dog breeds in the nation. 2009 U.S shelter data shows that the total U.S. pit bull population is no greater than 5% of all dogs.

San Francisco, California
In July 2005, about 6 months prior to San Francisco enacting a pit bull sterilization law, the San Francisco Chronicle reviewed hundreds of dog bites logged by the city. According to Animal Care and Control department records, pit bulls and their mixes accounted for 27% of reported dog bites since 2003, even though they accounted for only 6% of licensed dogs. Of the 900 bite incidents recorded in this period, 626 traced to a specific dog. Of those, 169 bites were attributed to pit bulls. As the Chronicle writer points out, "that's more than the number of bites by German shepherds (69), Labradors (58) and rottweilers (34) combined."

OK Troll Watcher I get it now.
I came here because I was hoping for a discussion about this incident. Not to argue or be called names.
I had not even looked at Can't Deny's other posts then, but I have now.
First of all the dogs I have here are not Pits. They are all small breed terrier and poodle types.
I am past retirement age AND experienced. I know what I can and can't handle.
I like big breeds better but have respect for size and strength in any breed.
Experience should tell anyone not to put a pack together and expect them to get along.
How can you assume what I say to adopters? You don't know me and never will. I would not even tell a new owner that a chihuahua ia an angel.
I have fostered and rehomed countless dogs and cats in my lifetime. I have only had one dog, bite someone. He was a farm raised Collie mix. I was very clear about his prior bad behavior but they wanted him anyway.
Can't Deny you are very free with using the word liar but after looking at some of the hundreds of posts I think you would find the liar in the mirror.
Omission is a lie. You omit parts of your documented verifiable fact posts when you think it will benefit your cause. You call people liars when they don't agree with you, instead of giving a link or an experience to verify your fact. That only shows that you are not sure of yourself. You post lists of unverifiable headlines from Tabloids and dog bite list from a hundred years ago, which makes you look like you are grabbing at straws. You are your own worse enemy. Even if I lived in St Lawrence Co and I was working for BSL I would not want you to help me. You really are a troll
i guess i just PROVED your allegation that i use bite counts from 100 years ago to be a LIE and you to be a LIAR it never takes pitnutters very long to start spewing LIES and even less time for me to PROVE they are LYING

GERMANTOWN MD - 2-PIT-BULLS RUN LOOSE AND ATTACKED A 10-YEAR-OLD BOY AND HIS PUPPY WHILE THEY WERE TAKING A WALK IN THEIR NEIGHBORHOOD

A 10-year-old boy was walking his 8-week old puppy on Saturday afternoon when 2 PIT BULLS escaped their leashes in Germantown.

The boy's mother, Daisy Cardenas, says her son Max started running for his house but could not make it.

"THE PIT BULLS BEGAN ATTACKING MY SON AND THE PUPPY RIGHT THERE IN THE STREET."

She and 2 neighbors quickly tried to get the dogs away. One used a broom and the other sprayed water from a hose.

**********

THE PUPPY NAMED "DRAKE" HAS BROKEN LEGS AND A BROKEN JAW.

**********

"I WANT THIS TO BE AN OPPORTUNITY TO ALL THE PEOPLE WHO HAVE PIT BULLS TO PLEASE BE RESPONSIBLE. IF YOU CAN'T HOLD THEM TIGHT, PLEASE DON'T BE OUTSIDE WITH THEM. THEY'RE VERY DANGEROUS."

Montgomery County police took the 2 pit bulls away. Cardenas said she plans to file a civil lawsuit against the owner of the dogs

Mary Jo Hunt was a dog freak and pit nutter and let's be thankful these 4-legged demons killed the fool who was "fostering" them rather than waiting until they were adopted by another fool and killed some child or neighbor. No one in their right mind would "foster" a group of pit bulls or pit mixes -- or any other large vicious breed of dog. Pit bulls and mixes are bad news even when they are raised from puppies because pit bulls are bred (created) to kill other dogs and when they attack, they fight to the death whether the victim is another dog or a 2-year-old toddler. If you were to ask Mary Jo Hunt if pit bulls were more dangerous than other breeds, she would say absolutely not, they are just like any other dog and it's all in how you treat them.... But you can't ask her because she was torn to pieces by all those sweet, gentle, loving "pitties"!

YOU'RE ABSOLUTELY RIGHT PITNUTTERS SPEW THEIR LIES RIGHT UP UNTIL THEY TAKE THEIR LAST BREATH LITERALLY I FEEL BAD FOR ANYONE WHO DIES LIKE THIS BUT YOU ARE RIGHT ATLEAST IT WASN'T A CHILD OR INNOCENT BYSTANDARD SHE DIED DOING WHAT SHE LOVED WHICH I GUESS IS NOT A BAD WAY TO GO IF YOU LOSE CONSCIOUSNESS QUICKLY WHICH HAS BEEN PROVEN NOT TO BE THE CASE IN 15 TO 20 MINUTE SUSTAINED ATTACKS BY PITS USUALLY THE VICTIM IS CONSCIOUS UNTIL THEY TAKE THEY'RE LAST BREATH

NATIONAL CITY (CNS)- A pit bull attack outside a National City apartment building Monday left a 4-year-old girl hospitalized with extensive injuries and the owner of the dog behind bars.

The roughly 65-pound terrier mauled the toddler shortly before 10:30 a.m. when she tried to pet the animal in a grassy central courtyard at the Laurel Avenue complex, where she and her family live, according to police.

Medics took the tot to Rady Children's Hospital in San Diego, where she was admitted in serious condition with injuries to her face and upper body, Lt. Keith Fifield said.

Officers stopped the owner of the pit bull, 22-year-old Brittany Morgan Gardiner, as she tried to drive away from the complex, where she also lives, according to Fifield.

Gardiner was booked into county jail on suspicion of child endangerment, resisting police and allowing a vicious animal to inflict injury, with arraignment scheduled for Thursday afternoon.

The dog was impounded and will undergo a rabies quarantine, after which it likely will be euthanized, the lieutenant said.

Gardiner told officers she had given the neighbor child permission to pet the canine, believing it had no aggressive tendencies, according to Fifield

Grayson Co. Neighbors Upset After Pit Bull Kills Dog

Posted: Oct 05, 2012 10:47 PM EDT
By Alex Belser, Reporter - email

GRAYSON COUNTY, TX -- A man is angry after he says his neighbor's pit bulls attacked and killed his sheep dog.

Neighbors want something done about two dogs they say have taken free reign of their neighborhood off Hanna Drive near Grandpappy Point and killed one dog.

The owner says this wasn't a one time fight, but that the dogs from across the street, had repeatedly attacked the dog. They say they are scared about what will happen next.

"Their dogs kept coming out of the fence and attacking him and he had a big gash on one of his legs," says Hunter Adams.

Adams says that Freckles wandered off, and he and other neighbors say that the two dogs, at least one of which appears to them to be a pit bull, fought with and killed Freckles.

"These dogs just had it out for him, there had been several occasions where I'd come out my front door and they had been right here, pretty much where you're standing, and barking at me and I had to get my little pellet pistol C-2 and shoot em off," says Adams.

Neighbors say they have seen the two dogs running loose in the street many times, and now they want the owner to keep better control over his animals. "He said they're gentle and they won't hurt anybody," says neighbor Karen Glassco. "Well, yeah they will, and they did."

Neighbors called county Animal Control to check things out, but the dogs were not around on Friday morning. However, neighbors say in the past they have seen them jump over fences, and that they have witnessed Freckles being attacked before.

"The dog was just standing there, and next thing you know, both of them were on top of it, the man even stopped them, he was going down the road, and he stopped and honked the horn at them," says neighbor Mary Harralson.

One neighbor tells us that her animals have not been hurt, but she has seen the dogs in her yard. "Hasn't hurt my dogs, hasn't caused any trouble so far," says neighbor Larisa Boston.

However the dogs' behavior has others worried every time they go for a walk. "They need to chain them up or find out why they've become so aggressive, because they didn't used to be," says Glassco.

A neighbor removed the dead dog from the street. No one answered the door at the pit bull owner's house on Friday morning and an animal control officer left a note on the front door.

HERE'S ANOTHER TRUE ACCOUNT OF AN ATTACK YOU CAN REPORT AS ABUSE

Dog attacks postal worker in Bethlehem, charges pending, police report
Published: Thursday, October 11, 2012, 3:37 PM Updated: Thursday, October 11, 2012, 3:38 PM
By Sarah M. Wojcik | The Express-Times

A 70-pound pit bull escaped a yard this afternoon in Bethlehem and attacked a female postal worker, causing serious bite injuries, according to police.

Authorities say the attack happened in the 1500 block of Elayne Street and charges are pending. Police declined to identify the victim or the dog owner until charges are officially filed.

The dog apparently escaped from its yard and ran at the mail carrier, who attempted to ward the animal away with a mace-like dog spray, police say. The woman was taken to the ground by the dog and bit on both arms, the face, chest and one area of her thigh.

It was not immediately clear what stopped the dog from attacking. The postal worker suffered significant injury, according to Bethlehem police Lt. Mark DiLuzio. She is being treated at St. Luke's University Hospital in Fountain Hill.

The dog was captured by police without incident. DiLuzio said the animal was not aggressive toward police. He said the dog was placed in quarantine at the owner's home while the investigation continues.

Oh CD, I know you wish it was as simple as "if it looks like a pit it's a pit," but there are so many different mixed breeds(even purebreeds) that get mistaken for American pitbull terriers all the time. Even I get it wrong sometimes. In fact, why dont you test out this theory of yours and see if you can spot the actual american pitbull terrier on the first try. http://www.pitbullsontheweb.com/petbull/findp...

Choose wisely grasshopper.

The test is intended to show how difficult it can be to distinguish depending on the dog. They never said that its impossible(those were your words), of course you can tell sometimes. Im at the dog park sometimes and I think I identified a dog and I ask the owner and its not what I though it was. The point is that sometimes it is possible to misidentify a dog. To say that no one ever misidentifies a pitbull is a load of crap because even I do it, and I own one.

Walk for Victims of Pit Bulls and Other Dangerous Dogs-Saturday, October 27th, 2012 Tucson AZ
Please come and join us, and show your support by walking for the VICTIMS of pit bull and other dangerous dog attacks. Most often when these dogs attack, maul or kill children, adults or family pets, the support seems to be misplaced onto the attacking dog/s to be euthanized, rather than where it should be...on the VICTIM. It is time that the voice of the VICTIMS and their families be heard to promote public awareness and help reduce the number of these attacks.

Please leave your dogs at home while joining us to walk for victims. This is most importantly for the safety of the walkers and for the safety of your dogs.

DOGS ARE NOT ALLOWED AT THE WALK

Tucson Police Officers WILL BE present at the Walk to ensure safety, and Animal Control will be present to escort any unruly visitors off the property and confiscate any Pit Bulls or Other Dangerous Dogs

We have rented the Park and reserve the RIGHT to refuse entrance to unruly visitors and DOGS
