Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny united our great nation? Did I miss something in translation?

Before I add my two cents worth and condemn or condone this issue, could someone please explain the drawback to permitting this building be zoned into a "church"? I mean seriously, folks, could this really have such a seriously negative impact on our lives? What's the real issue here? Our world is so screwed up right now, we all could use all the prayer we can get!
Churches do not pay taxes.

This guy sounds like a tax dodging free loader. The use of this place is NOT LEGAL by way of the building code. It's not a question of gov't vs. religion. This guy should rent or buy a church where it's permitted. Beyond that, he has a 10 foot cross on his front lawn. I don't care if you're religious or not (I'm a practicing Catholic), you're a freaking idiot if you don't think that looks out of place in a residential neighborhood. If this guy was paying taxes like everyone else and blended his home into the neighborhood, I don't think it would be a big deal if he wanted to conduct prayer services; it's not cool to throw it in the face of your neighbors and not pay taxes, especially when it's not legal in the first place.

The main problem North Bellmore residents have is that their property values will decrease. The church wants to pave most of the grass on its property to make way for a bigger parking lot. Parking has always been a major issue, with church members constantly parking in front of other homes. The new lot would surround the house (church) and of course be illuminated. Homeowners adjacent to the Church (mainly those on Jeffrey Dr) dont want the increase noise/ pollution from cars and
lumination of the lot in their backyards.
Another ojection is that the church doesnt conform to the surrounding residential area. This part of Newbridge Rd is one lane and lined with single family homes. The church also displays a large cross with a sign and the home is lit with white christmas lights 24/7.
This is the church here on google.maps (its left and down from the arrow, house is on an angle)

Please Spare Me .... since when is living near Newbridge Road quite and peaceful???? What about the firehouse down the block or the Gas station nearby.... That doesn't offend anyone but this small church does???!!!!! Not the heavy traffic or speeding cars but about 10 parishoners parking in front of homes,,, I guess when these same people have company all their friends park in front of their house or on the lawn... The fact of the matter is is that it is a church!!! It can only serve the community and it's neighbors in a positive way.... has anyone read the papers or listened to the news with all the heinious crimes going on and the fact that so many kids are at a loss that they are shooting up the schools... I say let this church alone... would you rather have a house full of illegals or a bunch of prostitutes in a massage parlor...I would in a million years rather have a church nearby that has services a couple times a year than anything else..... This country is really in sad shape and so is North Bellmore for it's Anti Christian attitudes....Since we are not allowed to display the 10 commandments anymore maybe this church and it's pastor can pass on some positive values to a lost and dying world... God Bless this pastor and church......

I have a problem because as a taxpayer, I'm supporting this "church" to the tune of $31,000/yr. Why is it that we have to choose between a church or a massage parlor? There's nothing in between? How about having a regular family living there that pays their fair share?

Brcause a church is tax exempt doen't mean you are supporting it.... since when are the taxes on Newbridge Rd $31,000 and I didn't know you were the sole support!! Sounds to me that you would ban all churches, synogogues and mosques.....So what do you have against this women and her small congregation? And nothing guarantees that, as you put it, a regular family, will be there....Maybe you should be glad that this church is there afterall you could have a family who's kids and their friends like to party at night and trash their neighbors lawns or a couple that have domestic disputes. or let their whole 10 memeber family move in with them.... Watch what you ask for you may get it... In the meantime I will continue to pray for this church as well as the people who would like to shut it.... Believe me the day is coming when you might need someone to pray for you and it will be one of the church members... P.S. I would rather support this church then all the criminals and welfare cheats in Nassau County....

1. Who would object to a fire house in their neighborhood???

2. Those living BEHIND the church on Jeffrey Dr live on a side street off another street that connects to Newbridge Rd...those tax paying homeowners ought the house because it was NOT on or near a main street. They bought the house knowing that only single family residential dwellings would surround their properties.

Heavy traffic and speeding cars? okay if their is hevey traffic already why do we need more cars on the one-lane Newbridge Rd.

3. Having friends and family over occasionally for various events is much different than having church members come regularly AT LEAST once or twice a wk.

10 parishoners? okay, now its 10, the pastor has said she wants to expand her membership to double (or more) its current size.

4. This is LONG ISLAND, Nassau-Suffolk MSA...for the past few years this has been the safest large region (pop. > 1 mil.) in the country in the safest large state in the nation...so enough with the crime bs

5. If you take away the church who says that a bunch of illegals or criminals will take it over??? How can you possibly know who would move into the home.

6. 10 commandments? what the heck does the 10 commandments have to do with this topic of this house seeking TOH variances...

oh, and just for the record im a practicing catholic...so dont throw back any bs anti-christian remarks

How about you go over to the Nassau County Assessment website and check out this property's exemptions. Do you think I just pull numbers out of my a s s? Why is it so hard to acknowledge that this is a possible tax scam? Also, you're right that I'm not the sole supporter of this church, but it looks to me like the community doesn't wish to support it either.

Is your mind too thick to understand that this world is not split between churchgoers and prostitutes or hoodlums? You keep saying that if this pastor's family is not there, the property would be inhabited by various forms of human waste. I guess only prostitutes and drug dealers are in the market for houses these days?

I just moved from Flushing, Queens, where there was an "American" in every home and a church on every block. My taxes which had been MUCH lower than my neighbors in Nassau County, were rising higher in the last 10 years because we had to absorb all the taxes NOT paid by these churches.
Watch out Bellmore, here they come.

My reply--
A church that has services a couple of times a year? That sounds like a home to me.

Give 'em an inch and they take over yards. Take a look at the formerly small church on Bellmore Ave./north of No. Jerusalem Rd. They just built an AIRPLANE HANGAR with the approval of the Town Of Hempstead Zoning Board. It's a monstrosity and I'm shocked everytime I pass it. Who considered the neighbors whose yards never see sunlight anymore. And the parking situation.
Outrageous. And no, I'm not affected personally. I just don't like bullies, whatever the source of their power.
