Cheaper thinking

Early studys show it would be cheaper the have a full time paid fire department on Long island. You could close a bunch of extra fire houses in towns that have multiple houses, that alone would save a ton of money.

The responce time would increase people would get a much faster responce to emergencys.and you would require allot less members then they have now.

Most districts average 145 members per fire house. You still need to pay Insurance, Pension, uniforms, training, free college, 25% tax reduction, 1 week paid vacation to mexico every year for 130 members in each fire house.

Full time you need an average of 26 members for each house and that will cover every shift for 24-7.

We would get a large tax savings with full time professional Fire Department personell.

Ok, sorry but Enough with Parades, Drills Race teams with the Long Island Fire Volunteer Departments. They are blood sucking all the tax funds. How about try to put out a fire that rarely happens on LI, or cut costs to save us tax money?

No need for Race teams, over the top fire houses, parades, and multiple fire trucks that just sit and rot, we have to pay pensions & retirement, reduced taxes, and free college and insurance for Fire Department Volunteers so it really is not a Volunteer job anymore they get plenty of benefits for volunteering.

Add in the free SUV , pick up trucks and vehicles they drive with free gas, the cost LI tax payers a small fortune, plus they buy new $60K SUV every 3 years and offer old equipment to members first.

times have really changed,a 1/3 of vols from Massapequa were FDNY and some arson investigators. The training was constant, between Bethpage once a week and nightly meetings and practice. Response time was good and there were no perks back in the 60's just pride.
