Why doesn't MHS (& other high schools) put drug-sniffing dogs at the front entrance for all students to pass as they enter. This would greatly help the drug problem. Something needs to be done. My sympathies are with Kiernan's family and friends at MHS.

I see that you showed up to watch that fight while your friend smartly stayed at home to study for the spelling test, right?

According to records, he'd been arrested last year for criminal possession of a controlled substance. He pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of disorderly conduct.

What a horrible ending to a tragic story. May God comfort this young man's family and friends. On another note, the school district should not have flown the flag at half mast. As horrible as that may sound, the flag is reserved to fly at half mast in the event of national matters or proclaimed by the president of the United States of America. The school district does not have the right to drop the American flag for any death; student, staff, or community member. Other means to remember and honor this young soul should be examined.

Sincerest condolences to the family.
No one should ever have to bury their child. May he rest in peace.

POOR PARENTING!!!!!!
I happen to know the parents of Kieran McCaffrey, and they were dedicated parents who would do anything for their children. Perhaps, Kieran was scared to admit to his family that he was in trouble. Many kids try to hide the fact that they are in way over their heads until it is too late. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family, friends and all the students of Massapequa High School who have lost another peer.

Prayers of healing to the McCaffrey family and Kieran's friends. I agree with MassMom. There but for the grace of God go I. My 16 year old son could easily be in the same position. Somewhere between discipline and communication maybe we can hold them safe for a bit. God bless.

I knew Kieran, and I knew his family...and I think that it is disgusting that people are slinging mud about parenting styles or possible drug use...

His parents are very nice people...don't assume that they're at fault, and don't assume that Kieran was a bad person, because he wasn't. He was, in fact, an incredibly nice individual who held a lot of potential and the fact that he's gone should be treated as what it is - a TRAGEDY, both for the world and most ESPECIALLY for his family and friends.
