People are going to regret it beyond measure if Medicaid funding for nursing homes gets cut. We simply cannot return to the days of families trying to cope with taking care of an elderly person with dementia (or other problems)alone, and few can pay the $70K annual cost of long term care. Yes......Medicaid is expensive, but it's the main way this country funds long term care, and is worth every penny. Those who disagree would come around fast if they had to stay at home to provide this care themselves.

JK CLAIMS to be a master at balancing budgets... he was budget chairman when the congress and clinton got together and balanced the budget

his 1993 plan failed to pass
his 1995 plan passed

how much credit goes to him is anybodies guess and depends on if you like him or not (no real way to know)

interestingly Kasich supported NAFTA and gun control (several times)

so in theory he helped balance the 1995 budget with Clinton...

so to say he's a "master"... he's done it (maybe) once

as for "doing it for Ohio"
what Gov hasn't?
Ohio law requires a balanced budget

the concept that it "means more money for you and me" with a tax cut is not always the case

if you cut taxes that give me a couple bucks a check... but cut spending that cause my local taxes to go up... did you really cut anything?

To all of you Kasich haters. I don't think that he really cares what you or anyone really thinks about him. Is that arrogance? Try this, he took this job when the state was at the brink of collapse. He has a job to do. He is fixing the problem. In doing so, he is going to upset some. There is no getting around it. But at the end of the day, he is fixing the problem. Why this is looked upon as a negative charectoristic is beyond me. What he is doing is LEADING this state out of financial ruin. And now he is offering tax cuts next year. Meaning you will get to keep more of your own money to do with what you wish. To any reasonable person, this is good. To all one-sided conservative haters, there is nothing that he can do right. Look at the big picture and remove your bias before developing your opinion.
Yes it's arrogance, he's supposed to be the Governor of EVERYONE in the State, he's not "fixing any problems" he's making more of them, and everything he's offered so far has been negative.

His phony tax-cut bribery would NEVER garner my support. He's the problem, not the solution, and he needs to go. And SOON.

Where's that recall law, Ohio?

And it's all OK with me that you all feel the way you do. You are probably right that if they held another election right now that Kasich would get creamed. But I think that is why they work 4 year terms. 6 months does not constitute success or failure. Judge his term at the end or beyond when results are in. JK is a master of balancing budgets. He was the first person to balance the federal budget in like 30 some years while he was in congress. And he is doing it now for Ohio. And I would think...or at least hope that anyone with reasonable common sense would agree that the budget needs balanced. He is not going to do away with the income tax if it is not feasable. But if he cuts taxes in any way, it means more money for you and me and that is a good thing.

that's unbelievable Rhetoric that means nothing
they "mean it" what does that mean?
blind cuts mean they cut funding to local govenments and leave it up to them to figure it out
ALL while not decreasing overall spending because they are giving money away to private, for profit companies
this budgets TOTAL spending started at only 700million less than the last one
and the house put some of that back in
don't give me this "8billion" crap... they are going to end up with a total spending budget basically even with Strickland's last budget
I could see "sharing the pain" if it was for something actually happening!
but giving money to wall street and private, for profit companies at the expense of Ohio tax payers?
that's blind cuts
They acted upon legislation with the intent to assist the common good during an economic crisis.

Your folks (democrats) decided to balk at writing amendments, legislating alternatives or find solutions to their 8 BILLION dollar deficit spending by Mr. Strickland.

And blaming Kasich?! Shame on your dishonesty.

So you're admitting the Republicans have got to be the stupidest people on earth? Four (4) "Demorats" took control of the entire Bush administration? They aren't politicians, they're magicians.

So let me get this straight. JK said Ohio had an 8 Billion shortfall last November and in 4 months, 4 short months! plus 2 weeks, he has turned that into such a surplus he is now talking about tax cuts? WOW! Perhaps he ought to go and teach others (although he hates teachers, go figure)... this country would be totally out of debt in less than a year at this rate. Yeah, right and I have a bridge in Brooklyn to sell too... Anyone who belives that "8 Billion BS" is either stupid, delusional, or just plan ignorant and will blindly follow (and believe) ANYTHING the GOP tells them as Gospel. "Facts? We don' need no stinkin' facts! We're the GOP! Get on the bus or get run over!"

Great post. You seem to know firsthand how much we need Medecare and Medicaid. I know I would be up the creak carring for my Mom without them. Yes she saved, but her saveings were in hard earned dollars which were worth a lot more then. Yes, the same dollars she watched inflation make almost worthless.

So the money that Whitehat Management gave the Governor should not be allowed to influence the budget, like it did? And the lobbying group his campaign opened (One Ohio United) that is running all those commercials promoting the Governor's Jobs Bill is wrong?
