I don't know how true this is - but have any of you heard that the Vortex at Kings Island is "sinking"? I'm gonna be very sad if thats true. I don't want the ride to be taken out - its one of the main things I look forward to when I go up there!

Yeah apparently it is, but it doesn't look like they are going to do anything about anytime soon. If they do anything about it they better replace it or put something equally awesome!

I just went there and rode it this past Wed. I know I am a big baby but it is the first time I rode it with my eyes open!! But I had no clue it was sinking. That would be very sad. The same fate as the King Cobra. It was my fave!

Don't really know if that is true or not. Heard it years ago!! So I don't really think it's true. I don't like when you walk past it and you can hear the track clanging and squeaking. I won't ride it anymore.

Does anyone know when the Vortex at Kings Island will reopen? I went there July 2nd and it was closed. I'm going again next Saturday (the 23rd) and I'm hoping it will be open! I know it had something to do with the chain on the lift hill.

actually it probably IS sinking. the ride that was there before they built the Vortex was called The Bat. Thats why there is a haunted house that u go thru in line for the Vortex. They closed The Bat in the early to mid eighties becuz it was sinking. It was one of those coasters that hang underneath like Top Gun. Peoples legs started to hit the ground becuz it was sinking and someone broke their leg or back sor whatever and they closed it. Same exact location as The Vortex.

they should bring back the old rides: The Bat, The Screamin Demon, King Cobra and Sky Lab.

No, the bat was a prototype suspended coaster, the first of its kind, the track was not banked in the curves and it wore the wheels out within a weeks time, also the shocks that kept the coaster from banging the stops on the carriage wore out daily, I worked on matenence from 1978-1985, the coaster stayed broke down, due to lack of parts. Also Arrow came in and xrayed the track and trains and it had stress cracks and the coaster had to be taken down. No one was ever injured on the Bat. The cars that swung were like top guns except they looked like bats, riders legs did not dangle, that's a rumor, lots of rumors have been told about the Bat, but it had a perfect safety record, no one was ever injured. And it was not sinking. The vortex is not sinking either, if there ever is a problem with the footers they will be redone. Vortex isn't going anywhere. It's too popular
