Lawsuit: Ohio feud has led to botched death probes

Feb 25, 2014 Full story: The Daily Record 138

A southern Ohio coroner is accused in a lawsuit of using deaths as a political pawn in a feud with the local sheriff, disrespecting bodies and abandoning important evidence, and as a result, keeping one Ohio family from ever knowing whether a loved one was killed or committed suicide.

Uh oh! Now the petition organizer, Tracy Hawkins, is back-stepping in this weekend’s Brown County Press. I guess, being the attorney that she is, she is soiling her panties, along with all those volunteering their businesses as locations to sign the petition to oust Dr. Varnau. Hawkins is probably starting to think, what if Dr. Varnau has not done anything wrong at all, and instead, it has been the SO all along that has been breaking the law and blaming it on Dr. Varnau. Uh oh! Do I hear a lawsuit naming Ms. Hawkins and all those businesses volunteering to oust Dr. Varnau based completely on slanderous and libelous lies on the street and in the media? Do I hear Attorney Hawkins starting to tremble, so much so that the soil is running down her legs and she is now standing in a big pile of it? Uh oh!

I question your assessment of Dr. V's wealth. Her lifestyle does not come close to reflecting it and true financial independence is difficult at the $1,000,000 mark for a person of her age. A CFP would probably recommend a $3,000,000 net worth if that was her goal.(Figure it out based on a realistic 4% ROI.) I doubt if she is shelling her assets to any great degree. BTW have you seen her house? A million in assets could probably do better.

From what I have read and or heard from the tapes placed on this site, I would suggest, the first harmful event in the investigation or lack thereof comes from the SO. Did anyone hear this differently than me ? If I were to spend my money, it would be to correct the issues that arose from the lack of an investigation from the SO. Other counties have deaths much more frequently than Brown County, why is it, they don't have these issues ? I don't recall in my lifetime and long career, a Police Agency walking away from the scene of a death, regardless of the circumstances without first investigating it. NEVER ! Does Brown County operate from a different Constitution, Rules of Procedure, or just what is it, that gives them the authority to conduct business contrary to the industry standards and or laws etc ?

For those who are intimidated or just have the inability to accept how improper your SO operates, its just a matter of time before there is another injustice in your county. The next one could be anyone or their family. Don't waste your time just signing a petition against your coroner, open your eyes and ears to what is really happening in your county. Take the time to talk with the people who are and have been victims.

Again, are your taxpayer dollars better spent when they settle cases that never should have come a bout to begin with, or should your taxes be used more wisely to the People in the County's benefit ? Its your money people, find out how they are spending and why . Don't let the County Leaders insult your intelligence, regardless of what grade level they think your at ! Your vote counts, make it worth it at election time !

Looks to me like Dr. Varnau, if not wealthy at all now, is going to be shortly. Read what is being said about her on Facebook with nothing to support their statements except a lawsuit complaint and press articles. What if all the information in the press and complaint are totally wrong and not factual at all except for a few bits and pieces taken out of context? Everything being said has been done without any factual support. What kind of claims will Dr. Varnau have against all those who have instigated this witch hunt on her based upon lies and disinformation. Looks to me like Dr. Varnau has a good lawsuit against a bunch of deputies who abandoned her at their crime scenes; against the sheriff, chief deputy, prosecutor, those volunteering their business locations to get more signatures, commissioners, and more, like those making libelous statements about her on Facebook that they can’t retract, but are going to wish they could. Looks to me like Dr. Varnau is going to own several businesses, a law firm by the name of Hawkins, and a pot load of money from all the others sued for dereliction of their duty and obstruction of her official business. Yes, this is going to be very interesting.

U people are just plain incompetent. You will see when everything comes to light just what a screwup this coroner is! And I'm gonna be sitting back laughing when it happens. She could be enjoying retirement right now but instead will now be faced with years of lawsuits being tied up in court during her golden years. And she will lose everything she has worked her whole life for. But like i said we gotta sit back and wait til the investigations are done and then the truth will come out.

It’s obvious you don’t have an insider in the SO to bring you up to date. The SO is taking a real reaming right now for dereliction of their duty at potential crime scenes. Just sit back and watch. Keep your eyes open, wide.

Now Corey, behave yourself. They are getting wise, LOL, because most people in Brown County never get wise because if they did, they'd leave Brown County.

Do you even know who BCI works for? The work for the Attorney General. Check out their web site. The are portrayed a professionals. Professional what? Because they sure do not know how to do their job.
Jane, Please take the time to digest what I am telling you. Better still, with respect to the crime scene yellow tape, go listen to the radio and phone traffic on the Josh Carter case at:
http://www.varnau.us/Medical/bluesky.htm
The coroner is only “IN CHARGE” of the dead body scene. It is a very small part and area of the overall crime scene which is the responsibility of the Sheriff’s Office, not the coroner. Once the gun is delivered to law enforcement and the body is released by the coroner, her death scene completely disappears into the much larger crime scene that is controlled by the deputy in charge of logging in and out all who enter the scene, keeping the scene secure. That is not the coroner’s job. The prosecutor Little doesn’t even understand how a crime scene is supposed to work. Take the time to watch the TV episodes where crime scenes are processed. There are many shows that process scenes the way it is supposed to be done, not the way our SO and prosecutor “think” it is supposed to be done.
Body parts. Did you ever enter a scene where someone has blown their whole head off with a shotgun? Let me tell you, there are body parts ALL over the place. And from what little I know of the lawsuit case, how difficult do you think it may be to find all the pieces of skull and brain matter in a room where there is no or minimal lighting? I heard that Dr. Varnau’s husband was asked by EMS personnel if he would hold the flashlight so they and Dr. Varnau could get Mr. Jones body into the body bag. Now why do you suppose they had to ask Mr. Varnau for help? Because the deputies left the scene. It should have been some deputies on the scene to help EMS load the body. Open up your eyes and mind, think a little about this, just for a minute or two. You are being played like an idiot by a bunch of criminals in high places.
Now, after listening to Chief Deputy Johnny Schadle on the Blue Sky Park Road incident, just who is it that is playing games with the dead here in Brown County? The reality is this. It is Chief Johnny Schadle, the Sheriff, and Jessica Little who are the ones playing political games with the deceased in a pretty successful attempt so far to ruin the professional reputation and capabilities of Dr. Varnau. Since when is it the county prosecutor’s job to tell the coroner what she should put on a death certificate as the manner of death? Why would the prosecutor even get involved in doing that without even seeing all the evidence herself? I see all the name calling going on about the Varnaus, when the words used to describe them actually wear much better on Jessica Little. Wake up Brown County! You have criminals and total incompetents running the criminal justice system here in Brown County..
It's all about what side of the badge you're on,suicide?case closed.homicide?o man ,now I'm going to have to work!(cuts into my time)besides I've got another job to do since I have the key to the contraband room.

Now I understand how the public can vote for an illegal sheriff four terms in a row. If the public doesn't have the knowledge, the press can't dig deeper to print the truth and the officials know the truth but turn their heads the other way and don't uphold the law. How many times has Wenninger filed with the Board of Elections and lied or filed false documents? How many times has the Board of Elections not done their job by checking the qualifications for the people running for Sheriff? Are those at the Board of Elections paid to do their job? Who are these people? Talk about politics, cover-ups and people who can't handle the truth, who botched what? BTW if you don't know it is the evidence room not contraband room maybe the Sheriff needs to hire someone that knows their job.

After heavily watching the NCAA playoffs these past few days, A sports analogy to support my previous posts under various threads comes to mind, "The team that wins is the one that spends the most $ to support it's players." That is how all this will play out. I'm looking to see Vegas odds (seriously) on some of these lawsuits in the near future.

I agree pud. That's the way it goes in most situations dealing with our court system, whether criminal or civil.

It would be nice if we had some honest people running for office that wanted to do things the right way.

When I looked at the people running for office that was in the paper I saw several offices that had only one person running for that office. Are there no Democrats that are qualified to run?
How can you get the crooks out of office if no one runs against them?

Financial disclosure laws being what they are, there is not much incentive for a honest, small business person to run for office. Dusty Puckett tried and went down the toilet big time. Why "Maytag" Gray ever did, I'll never know. The IRS (behind the scenes) is probably having a forensic accounting field day with him.
