There are so many people in Maryville that are on pills! that is the topic every where you go. Can the sheriffs office not do more about this? It is common every where you are to hear a conversation about when and where they will get their next pill! i am not very smart but I know that it is a problem in Maryville.

It is a problem everywhere, not just in Maryville. The unfortunate thing is that if it weren't prescription pills it would be something else. I heard a report that heroin is making a strong comeback because it is so cheap. They can get rid of the pills but it won't stop the drug problem. Law enforcement officials need to work WITH the prescribers and pharmacies to catch the people that are dealing the pills. Presently it seems they are working against them but they could catch more people who are doing the wrong things with their pills if everyone would work together.

If you know for certain that someone is doing something wrong then by all means, report them. From my understanding, when I called to report someone, you have to have proof before they will take a report. Hell, I had proof and they wouldn't even come to the office and pick her up. They had to take a report and then file for a warrant and THEN they would go after her. And I had the proof in my hands. It sucks.

If a person waves enough money around someone will take the bait. Look at the Michael Jackson case. There were several doctors that told him no before Dr. Kevorkian Jr smelled $150,000 a month and said yes. I've seen corruption in our legal systems. It's a terrible thing when we can't trust the ones who are supposed to be leading us.

The whole judicial system sucks! too bad you had the proof and still couldnt get anything done! wish I could just get hold of these people myself....lol. Just cant understand why people want to ruin their lives and others with drugs and being thieves. But drugs and stealing go hand in hand. Guess I will hush for tonight.

Yes, drugs and stealing do go hand in hand sometimes. A person who is in active addiction will do things, that under normal circumstances, they morally would never do. It is hell on earth and the majority of people who are addicts don't want to be. But once addiction takes hold of a person it takes a lot of work to break it's grip. It can be done though. Take it from me...I know. I've been there, I've seen it, and it is a horrible place to be. But you clean those same people up and they are the some of the best people you would ever want to know. I have to separate the drug abusers from the people who truly need them on a daily basis and sometimes it's not easy to even tell which is which. I've been surprised a few times. I do not dislike addicts, I feel for them. Instead of waging a war on drugs, this country needs more education about drugs and it's effects. And not just when the kids are in the 5th grade. They need it every year until they are grown. We need to show the scary details of it. Of course there are grown ups that inadvertently get involved with drugs sometimes but those are not the norm. We need access to rehab for the people who want it. The waiting lists for state supported rehab centers is up to 6 months. There are LOTS of people who want help and can't get it, or they have to wait 6 months to get it. Unless you're a celebrity of course and can afford to go somewhere else. Our system totally sucks!

The people being paid off are the pharmaceutical companies that produce and make a fortune off of these harmful products, the disreputable pain clinic physicians that prescribe them, the pharmacy workers that turn a blind eye to what's happening, and the recipients who turn around and sell these so-called meds for upwards of $100 per pill. I work in the service industry, and a great deal of my friends, clients, and co-workers openly use Oxycontin, Hydrocodone, Xanax, and others like it's candy. Additionally, they don't see anything wrong with it because "these are prescription drugs, not the bad ones," according to them. I see a great deal wrong with it, but I do not have the power to change what seems like the entirety of our modern society. What's worse is that my job allows me to travel periodically, and I encounter these same drugs, people, and mentalities in nearly every state I've worked in.

The products your described are only "harmful" if they are abused. If they are taken as prescribed they are perfectly and completely SAFE. You may see a lot of people abusing the medications but put the blame where it is rightfully deserved. On the PERSON that is abusing them. It is not the pills fault, it is not the pharmaceutical company's fault. It is not the prescribers fault. It is the fault of the person that is abusing them. The problem with our society is we have become a society that can't take personal responsibility.

Let me add...although it is not the pharmaceutical companies fault that people abuse the pills they ARE making millions. The amount they charge the pharmacies for these pills is outrageous and then in turn some of the pharmacies (not all) gouge the patients out of much more than they should. Again though, abuse of the drugs are the responsibility of each individual person that chooses to do so. Addiction is a hellish disease that grabs ahold of a person and does not let go but that person can get help if they so choose. If they don't get help and continue to abuse the medication and OD, it is by their own hand and not anyone elses fault.
