The story headlines tries to make you think a miracle happened and the bible saved the pastor's life but he was obviously dead in the water on the second shot so the bible saved im just enough time to say "what the f was that?"

This is so sad. Another case of a Christian being cursified. If the killer isn't dead already, I hope he rots in hell for eternity

What a headline! It'll get you click-through for your ad-space rankings. Be ashamed.

It's obviously about the money here (unless the Tribune is now aiming for the journalistic integrity of The Onion).

My version, "God Doesn't Stop Bullet That Counts."

"I hope he rots in hell for eternity"

Now now, where is your Christian forgiveness? He probably had mental illness.

First let me say my prayers go out to Pastor Winters and his family, the first baptist church and the town of Maryville. My hometown is right next door to Maryville so i am very familier with the area. These are small bedroom community's where things like this horrible event are not common and are shocking. I have never heard of a story like this happening in the area. I want to say to "glory" that laughed his/her butt off at this is a sick puppy and should be ashamed. Also, i want to say to "murder all priests" you need to read all the articles and know the so far reported facts. Pastor Winters sounds like he was a honest and good hearted man. No questionable past or image has been reported on the Pastor. As far as the gunman, yes it is reported he had mental and health issues and was under medication for years due to an illness. Right now it is time to pray and mourn for Pastor Winters, his family and his church. It is not the time to be pointless and say cold hearted stupid comments.

Yes.

If I get shot in church, I may just laugh at the irony of twelve years of Catholic school going out the window.

Yes, if I get shot in church and killed, you have permission to laugh.

If we can't laugh at the idea that another looney with access to a gun what can we laugh at?

This is tragic, and one can never establish motives for mad men. Our Republic can only expect more of the same as an increased number of disillusioned act on irrational thoughts. These are just buildings,(not divine houses of worship, sanctuaries, temples, mosques, etc)and isn't time some type of security is provided to protect those in attendence?
As for State Police Director Trents, comment about "bible defelcting first shots,". Was unprofesional and desrepctful, when it was a shot that hideously killed this man. The book (bible) has never prevented a act of violence.

I have an update, courtesy of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, published this morning. Terry Joe Sedlacek, 27, is described as the gunman. He is mentally ill, suffering from the effects of Lyme disease. He was also written up by the Post-Dispatch last August 6, in relation to this disease. There will be more in the next few days. Google St. Louis Post-Dispatch if you want to read the article ( stltoday.com is the website if I got it right).

As a friend of Pastor Winters for the past 30 years, I would like to say "thank you" for the decency of this post.

As for the other inane and cold-hearted posts, I can't say I don't care or that it doesn't hurt me because I do and it does. But, that being said, you have a right to say what you please. It's just sad to me that you use this right for such insensitive purposes.

Your welcome and let the family and church know they are in my prayers. Also, let me say i am sorry to hear that is a personal lose to you as well. Would you mind sharing any stories of Pastor Fred with us?...he seemed like a much loved and respected pastor. Thank you ahead of time.

Yes it so funny when people get killed isn't it?, give me a d@#m break. I hope you dont ever get shot or killed sencelessly by other ways. I cant even laugh at the looney either because obviously that person is to nuts to know there own pain. It is a shame our global thinking is so messed up and peoples lives are taken for granted.

im still trying to make out the connection. he wasnt a member, however he must have known this man. why target just him? if he was nuts, he would have targeted random people in the crowd as well. but he shot the man four times. sounds more like some strange vendetta than just random act of violence. i guess the clues will be released a little more in the up-coming days.
