What to expect in Jail?

I am fairly new to this area and made s terrible mistake of having a few drinks with my coworkers after working late one evening. I really thought that considering my size that the three drinks I had would not impair my driving, unfortuniatly I was wrong. I was pulled over for weaving and failed the field test and was taken to jail for a breath test which I also failed, I was released to a friend so I was not incarcerated that evening. My court date is soon and I plan to plea guilty, my attorney says I will most likely be taken into custody at that time and be transported to the Tri County Jail to serve my sentence, we are expecting only 3 days. My question is, What to expect? Will I be handcuffed for the trip to jail? Will I be allowed to take books, magazines or some paperwork to be productive? I am really nervous not knowing what to expect, if you have been in this situation please give me some insight on what it is like.

if you are expecting to go to jail from court, you may be allowed to take some items in with you such as a few pair of white socks, white underwear an a couple no wire white bras. if possible try to get your lawyer to arrange for you to report in or surrender at the jail instead of being taken in custody at court. if taken in custudy at court you will be placed in a holding cell until court proceedings are over, then yes you will be searched and handcuffed in back. be cooperative and avoid trying to joke around or resist. remember that handcuffs are not designed for comfort. at the jail you will be searched, fingerprinted and mugshots taken, then your personal property and clothes taken and you are given a imate uniform, this is where the white socks, underwear and white wireless bra is nice, they are all that is permitted. after booking you will go to your cell or dorm, since it is not a felony you will not be locked up all day, you can usually move around the cell block during the day if you are not a problem and obey the gaurds. it is however still very boring and a humiliating experience but if only for a few days it wont be that bad. i did 23 days awaiting court and it seemed like 5 yrs.

I know someone that works there, former inmate above might be able to elaborate, but it's a fairly modern facility. There probably aren't many better county jails in the state and there are certainly worse. He actually eats the cafeteria food on the regular, so it's not wreck-your-guts terrible.

While it sucks you have to go through with this and will have to deal with the repercussions for a while, it could have turned out much worse. If anyone was injured in an accident in your immediate vicinity, regardless of your actual fault, you could be looking at years in prison. It's a good reminder to folks that drive on a couple of beers thinking they are good to go that they might just be good to go to jail.

What a horible and humiliating experience. I was taken into custody after my appearance in court. I was transported with my hands cuffed very tightly behind my back, which is very uncomfortable to ride in the cruiser like that. The booking is very humiliating. All of the officers and jailors were very professional, but they were also stern. Being locked up was horrible even though the cell doors were only locked at night, the cell block is very cold and the cot uncomfortable. The inmate clothing was also not very comfortable, The food was bland and not very tasy either.

I suppose if it was too comfortable, folks would be lining up for free room and board. Glad you made it through the process and were willing to share an embarrassing but possibly valuable lesson.
