Backers push Route 219 expressway

As it is now, it is 1488 miles from Toronto to Miami, driving southwest on I-90 from Buffalo, New York to Erie, Pennsylvania before heading south on I-79 on the western edge of Pennsylvania. Why build 269 miles of new four lane highway in New York State and Pennsylvania when I-90 and I-79 (both four lane highways) are already completed and in use. Why go as far east as Maryland (or Washington, DC) when you have to go as far west as Jacksonville, Florida (which is due south of Cleveland, Ohio).

I see that TEA doesn't realize that having a major north south route could help some of the towns along the way.
Cut costs for truckers, save fuel[ oil].
I know TEA doesn't care about Buffalo but it would help this area to be the major Border crossing between the U.S. and Canada like it once was.
Now it is Detroit and Port Huron.
It would help bring BIG money back into this area.
A major North south route could help a lot of people along the way.

I think Buffalo would be helped more by lower taxes on everything and less welfare for the poor democrats and the rich republicans.
Trickle down for points north of Morgantown, West Virginia in the form of service plazas like the one on route 80 near Clearfield, Pennsylvania might not be enough to compensate for a ten mile wide corridor of noise and air pollution. Who would be crazy enough to drive an extra 90 to 100 miles (via Continental 1) to get to Morgantown from Buffalo?
Would Bradford, PA suddenly fill up with factory outlet malls serving people escaping higher sales taxes in New York and Canada? Bradford does have a mostly vacant mall just a mile or two from New York state.
I think Continental 1 is a feeble attempt to solve some local economic problems while promising to divert traffic from Detroit and Port Huron. I suspect it will just divert some traffic from the I-79 corridor between Erie and Pittsburgh. Since New York City, Pittsburgh, and Philadelphia will continue to spend your (state tax) money on their (city) mass transit, this will just drive our taxes up some more, and we will all be quite a bit poorer in 20 years, even if we happen to be working at one of those trickle down service plaza jobs.

What you may not know is that all Rt 219 'improvements' have been funneling north/south traffic directly beside and past an archaeological site in northwestern PA Allegheny Mountains, where a rare and tiny mucousal-artifact oracle-bead chronicle was found decades ago. Asphalt dust is heaped on and around the site daily since four-lane Bradford-city bypass was constructed, rather than detour-bypass negotiated during formal archaeological survey and investigation that has never been scheduled. Ironically, most observers think the tiny artifact is simply an old dead egg.
