The obvious ethical thing to do is for the county to refund the excess taxes or at least credit them to the next years tax bill. If our leaders are ethical, they will make this happen before election day. If not, we should vote them out of office in protest! We don't need less than totally ethical people in our government!

Typical, pass a Fire tax law forget that the same annexing action affects the Police too. Only a lawyer or a politician, or both, could be that inept. How complicated would it be to change the law to prorate all taxes that are duplicated by annexation. It could probably be handled with a single word change from "Fire" Taxes to "All" Taxes. Hmm State government it should be in place sometime in 2033.

Isn't charging for a specific service and then not providing that service fraud. Or are local governments immune from that too. What about everyone in the town taking out a writ in the small claims court. Mecklenberg would sue or prosecute fast enough if they paid someone for a service they failed to provide. Surely you have a lawyer living in the town.
