Orthodoxy is the church you read about in the Bible. It has the unbroken line aaaaallll back to the original apostles. That is what Mr. Knight has reported finding. He's a very good writer and he has written a very powerful essay.

I'll trust Chris Knight's report over the Johnnymafia's made-up claims.

Lots of emotionalism in that essay. He apparently likes the form, traditions, and has weird reactions to the smoke. Unbroken line to the apostles-I don't believe any organization has it. An original line isn't the most important thing anyway-the teaching is. How does it match up with the Bible? That's the true test.

I didn't know about Knight until I found his forum and Johnny talking about him. I know Chris has a lot to deal with like bipolar but even with that, he's flying circles around Johnny, Mark and James.

Here's something Chris wrote there that Johnny's mafia could use to read.

"What is "church"? Jesus told Peter that he was "the Rock" and upon it "I will build My church".

My Catholic brethren hold that Jesus was entrusting Peter and his predecessors as the exemplars and leaders of the church. There are others who contend that Jesus was speaking of Peter's faith, and how such faith would be the foundation of His body upon this earth.

My personal understanding of "the church" has grown and developed in recent years, especially as I have visited the congregations of brothers and sisters in Christ with whom I share the faith, but also have differing perspectives about that faith. There are some who will claim that such divisions do not represent true Christianity, but I disagree. In fact, I don't believe that "denominations" are a bad thing at all. There is even biblical precedent for them. The seven churches of Asia Minor we read about in the Book of Revelation were as unlike from each other as there might possibly be. And yet, Christ did not cast any of them from His sight. There were some He praised and some He castigated, but they were still counted as being of His flock.

It was the coincidental visits by two dear friends which opened my eyes to a beautiful truth. One is a Baptist minister and the other is a true renaissance man of many skills. It was the latter who noted, as we discussed some spiritual matters, that "we're having church right now". Because as Jesus taught His disciples, "where two or three are gathered in My name, there I am also".

That is what "church" is. A gathering of imperfect people in the name of the One who is perfect and covers all our transgressions. And if we see Him in different ways but still strive to cast our eyes upon Him, I've no reason to believe that His grace isn't beyond such minor incongruencies inherent to our carnal minds."

It bothers me somewhat when you say your understanding of the Church has grown and developed over the years. That is only to justify in your mind your own beliefs, which is what protestantism and sola scriptura is all about.

Jesus started one Church, and he said it would not fail. There was only the Catholic Church , including the Orthodox for 1500 yearsr and now for 2000 years, it has not failed, in spite of pedophile priests, invading armies and the heretical reformist.

How can your understanding of the Church grow other than your understanding of the CC?

This little clip is enough to show that Mr. Knight does not indeed know his Bible as he should. Did he not read that some of the churches of Revelation were in danger of having their lampstand removed, that some had committed fornication with Jezebel, or made Christ want to vomit them out of His body, or some had soiled their garments? How many survived until today?

His last phrase I quoted is a simple error many make not knowing what the context is. We're having church now-where 2 or 3 are gathered? Jesus is speaking of discipline in that passage.

Paul also said "the man of lawlessness" would be around until Jesus returns as well. John said antichrists were here 2000 years ago. Just because something is old doesn't mean it is good and right.

Johnny Robertson should learn from Chris Knight's example. Johnny and his men interrupt church services and harass and bully people who they don't agree with. Johnny and his men use lies, secret cameras etc to get material they take out of context to use on television. Johnny and his men try to "defeat destroy" other people.

Chris went in respectfully, did not interfere or object with the service, watched and observed and didn't judge Orthodox to be lost sinners because they weren't his way of worship, and wrote about what he learned. Chris asked questions but did not "debate" to make himself puffed-up big like Johnny does. Chris didn't try to "defeat destroy" anybody.

Between Johnny Robertson and Chris Knight it is plain and clear who the more humble and respectful Christian is.

I agree with you on this one. There's no need to go into someone's service to disrupt it or cause problems. It appears that Knight was very respectful, and learned a little something in the process.

Orthodox and Catholic services are very interesting to watch if anyone gets to see them. A couple of people in my congregation have been to Catholic services and weddings before. It made an impression on them, even though they don't believe in catholicism.

Looking around on his blog I found Chris Knight's report on his visit to an Adventist church.

http://theknightshift.blogspot.com/2009/09/it...

Again Knight shows respect and courtesy and being willing to learn from how Seventh Day Adventists worship Christ.

I couldn't be an Adventist because of the commitment to keeping the traditional Sabbath but they still sound like very sincere Christians who put Christ first in their lives. I couldn't be Adventist but they are our brothers and sisters in the Lord.

Johnny Robertson could learn from Chris Knight's example. If Johnny and his followers better behaved themselves they would be more respected in the community too.

The Catholic Church was the only Christian Church for 1500 years. In this case old does equal good and right. It was the only Christian Church so it has to have the fullness of the Truth

I think they find Catholic services interesting because the whole focus of the service is on Christ and the Bible.

The focus in a Protestant Church is the preacher's words.

The Catholic Church strayed from the teachings of the Apostles, adding to the Word of God. The ‘great falling away’ may be where YOUR church history is traced to. It may be a good historical account of the church turning from its roots. Thanks to the CC, we have clear writings that demonstrate how the church got off track. The CC done a superb job keeping track with all of its false teachings that contradict Scripture. What you believe to be ‘Church History’ really is a record of ‘Church Apostasy’. Thanks to all of the “Historical writings” from the CC, we can compare that to INSPIRED scripture and know that the CC is a false Church.

They found it interesting because of the pomp and circumstance, and because it was "interesting". Don't get your hopes up Mike-both also didn't like the fact that no one could understand the language-I think that may be the point-and both knew it was not what God intended the church to be.
