Wow. I used to live in this town, so I visited Topix to see what modern Martinsvillians chat about for fun. Religion, it seems - but no one seems to be having any fun at it - everyone seems very pissed off about it.

Does anyone have fun in Martinsville anymore?

Maybe some people enjoy chatting about "religion"

I'm sure people are having fun in Martinsville. Dang, they forgot to post about it though.

Ha! Don't judge the whole city by Topix, where half a dozen people have been squabbling for years, and half of them are from out of town. When you ignore the church of Christ issues, Martinsville has some fun going on.

Yeah, know I do, but it seems a lot are more interested in this johnny robertson character and kids underwear and tv shows. Maybe there can be more fun conversations after these people get all of their venom out.

Chatting about "religion" is fun, when it's who you are. Even if we seem like we're getting angry, I think we all enjoy what we're doing. It's a good growing tool too.

The fact that all we seem to discuss is religion should speak volumes about this town. You don't see us discussing all the nice employment, good wages, or restaurants, stores and other such amenities. Or even the lack thereof since it has been so long since we had any. Religion is about all we got. Maybe if we spent time praying together for things to get better instead of fighting.. but who am I kidding.

Martinsville, meet northeast Kentucky. Same story here. Nothing here, never will be here. And when we get a chance to have anything nice and new, the local "powers that be" shut it down so they don't lose all of their business.

And everybody wonders why our kids don't stay home, or keep the same values we have. We have no reason for them to stay. They have to leave just to have anything in this world.

Do the churches in Martinsville still hold activities for the community? What about the schools? Tons of businesses (factories) have closed since I was last there - do most people now commute to Roanoke, Danville, or Greensboro to work? It must be hard to continue to live in a town that seems dead or dying - but I hope the people that DO still live there have a good quality of life. What about Oktoberfest or the Christmas parade? My memories of Martinsville are that of a busy, bustling town - the vibe Topix gives is that of a scandalous angry mob.

I don't judge Martinsville by it's Topix posts - I understand that a site such as this promotes gossip and venting about the things in life that bother people. Also, a town isn't represented well by a few people who take time to visit and blog on websites - most people don't. The image of Martinsville presented on Facebook is very different - proms, bands, boy scouts, fun stuff! I was curious as to why all the forums here are religious and why people are so disagreeable about it. When I attended church in Martinsville, it was just overflowing with happiness and activity.

Chin up, Martinsville! Let's chat about something else!

In the past two weeks a buffet restaurant and a grocery store have closed with little to no advance notice. The only bustling here is the religious folks arguing while the young people leave in droves after school and their parents are forced to seek work elsewhere. The image of the town in the region is represented by a TV station that would make Jerry Springer ashamed and an evangelist who props it up with church money to finance the bad programs. The evangelist says everybody is going to hell except his brand and some of them are even suspect. Yeah it is a lot of fun.

Basically there was a site called answeringthechurchofChrist which in 2006 received more attention than any other Christian Blog of its kind. For the short time it ran it had gotten nearly 250,000 hits and was being read by tons of liberal and hyer-con cofC and was drawing more attention than Johnny cld drawn in his entire 20 years in Martinsville.

After shutting down some of the posters decided to take over Martinsville Topix and expose the fraud and inconsistencies of the cofC. Since then the cofC governed by Johnny Robertson have been caught in scandalous behavior sending two of its preachers to well-known Mercy Crossing which is lead of Jackie Poe. The two cofC preachers purposely set out to deceive Jackie Poe even out right lying that they were members of the Church of God that headquarters in Cleveland, Ohio.

Brandon, Joey, Mark, and others attempted to refute the threads on here without any success. Mark M. from Danville was ignorant of some things pertaining to David and when called out for his mistake he retreated and hasn’t been back since. Joey Nichols and Brandon Horton soon followed the path of the cowardly. From time-to-time Johnny Robertson will jump in with a hit-and-run comment but never does he refute anything on here. Lastly we have our friend Shawn Paden A.K.A “Heath” who reads this forum on a regular basis (as does Johnny and his crew) and jumps in at times when he finds something worthy to cut and paste.

This site has done more damage to the plans of Johnny Robertson than that site “answeringthechurchofchrist” ever done. Each day that passes more and more people are coming on this forum from the cofC. An Elder from the deep South regularly comments and new comer NEW GUY a preacher of the cofC also is shedding new light on things and showing a side of the cofC not seen from Johnny and his cronies.

HaHa - I was crying about being ignored - you didn't ignore me at all - you were falsely accused.

Yeah, I just couldn't jump into that Johnny Robertson business - people are still very passionate about discussing his actions here on Topix, I've noticed. He is on the local TV station, I guess??

Yeah. He's a real piece of work. His manner is not the best I've seen.
