A troubling event happened at Bassett Country Club on June 22, 2013. My family and I were attending a wedding reception. The party began around 6:30 and family and friends were having a wonderful time. The staff of the club were doing excellent job. While the reception was winding down around 10:30pm, 4 or 5 Henry County Police cars showed up at the club. As they were entering the building, one of the Deputies said,“They received a complaint that some people were vandalizing the bathrooms.” After inspection, they found no evidence of any wrong doing. The Deputies were very professional and they apologized for the intrusion. Everyone attending the reception was so confused on why someone would call the Police for no reason and with the Police arrival; the party came to a screeching halt. I can only imagine the embarrassment the Bride and Groom having their wedding reception end on that kind of sour note. It was soon discovered; the Manager of the Club had her superior call Local law Enforcement. Unfortunately, she did not notify the Party Planner, the Bride, Groom or their Parents of any problems or situations that could have easily been corrected. I am not sure why this manager made this decision but her decision made a great and wonderful night into an embarrassing event for the Bride and Groom and a terrible ending to a great night for the folks attending the reception.
I have worked in Country Clubs and I have managed many Banquet events such as this one for over 20 years. I have never seen a wonderful event end in such a troubling way. There was no evidence of any wrong doing so why did the manager have someone make a fake call to the local Law Enforcement. She will be the only one that knows the true answer to that question. I hope Bassett Country Club offers the Bride, Groom, family and friends a big apology. I think what happened to end the Wedding reception was
