Attention Vallejoans!
http://www.timesheraldonline.com/letters/ci_2...

We're about to make history and we need your help.

Starting today, May 11, through Saturday, May 18, residents of Vallejo and its surrounding unincorporated areas who are 16 and older will be able to vote on up to six of 36 projects and decide how to spend $3.2 million of our taxpayer dollars.

While Participatory Budgeting (PB) processes have been completed in approximately 1,500 cities world-wide, it has only been done in four U.S. cities -- Chicago, New York, Vallejo and San Francisco. And Vallejo is the nation's first city-wide PB process -- all other have only been done in council districts. So, instead of only being known for municipal bankruptcy, Vallejo is now becoming known for participatory democracy!

Thus far, one New York City council district (population, 170,000) has been the highest vote getter of all the U.S. PB processes with about 2,800 total votes. I know Vallejo can do better than that! Let's show New York, Chicago and San Francisco what Vallejo is made of. Let's at least triple New York's highest number of votes for PB projects. Help get out the PB vote by spreading the word. And encourage your friends and family to vote too.

For descriptions of the PB projects on the ballot and more information about PB Vallejo, check out www.pbvallejo.org .

No, we are known for being a ghetto. And now we are known for being a ghetto, with half of a police force, spending millions on ridiculous "projects". I've never witnessed this level of stupidity in my life. Vallejo is a laughable joke.

wonder why marti brown did not sign this? we are making history all right, pulling a bone-headed stunt like this as crime spikes and police leave. marti brown is full of schmidt! she told us to vote for measure "a" in 2010 to put more cops on the streets. she got it, yet police continue to fall as brown and her friends dream on playing with our money!

there were less than 900 involved in this deal, not the community. the fact that an overwhelming majority of citizens did not participate speaks to the sentiments of the rest of us. marti will pay for this folly in november if she ever comes off the fence. then there's the 2010 measure "a" hype to put more police on the streets that she was hawking, yet the police keep falling, more will leave when she joins her fellow conspirators to impose an affordable contract, then they will tell us some smack about taking time and hopeful about bringing police staffing up. we can't wait to shred her a newass in the campaign. tent cities? yes weed, no waterfront or fairgrounds development, the list will be long.

Marti is allowing unregistered voters and unincorporated Vallejo residents to vote to pump up the numbers. This even further dilutes the sentiments of the at-large Vallejo community. We need that money for more important things, like dealing with crime. I can't wait until November!

The number of officers in 2010 was into the 90's, it will soon fall into the 70's. By Gomes own words police are grossly understaffed, yet her crowd insisted removing binding arb would put more police on the streets. We know upwards of 20 more will leave once they impose a contract that will affect the pension payout for senior officers. What a mess Schivley's War has brought us.

Its okay. When the police are all but gone and crime soars even higher we the people will step up to the plate. We will have to. And if the people protesting at city hall think the police are brutal, well they haven't seen anything yet.

It's all a facade. They will pretned to listen, then do what they want. I hear there is a lot of that within governments.

Kudos to PB as they actually provide tax apyers a means to get something for their tax dollars. 2/3 of Measure B money is already going to the general fund of which 80 percent goes to public safety compensation only. NOw these greedy incompetent creeps are telling you they need 100 percent of measure B money to line their pockets.

I prefer funding to infrastructure and non-profits which provide verifiable outcomes as opposed to throwing more $$ down the rat hole of the Police Department. I might entertain spending all of Measure B monies on public safety if they would sign a contract promising that things like the North Vallejo Little League shootings would not happen, but we know the truth...why give the incompetent and grossly overpaid PD all of our tax dollars when they wont even sign a contract promising that violence will be reduced if we give them all of our tax dollars.
