Rep. John Garamendi joined more than 125 of his colleagues in signing a petition to compel Republican leadership in the House of Representatives to allow a vote on comprehensive immigration reform, the congressman said Wednesday.

The House comprehensive immigration reform bill is very similar to what passed the Senate with a bipartisan 68-32 vote and already has 200 co-sponsors, including three Republicans, he said.

Garamendi, D- Walnut Grove, who represents the 3rd Congressional District that includes Solano County, said he is convinced a comfortable bipartisan majority exists in the House to pass a comprehensive immigration reform bill but that the Republican leadership has refused to allow a vote.

“Our current immigration system is broken. It’s time to fix it,” Garamendi said in a press release.

Should a vote by the House (R) NOT be brought before it until the exact details of a re-worked comprehensive immigration reform bill are further discussed and laid out?
The Senate (D) passed it, 68-32, with almost half of the "representatives" not agreeing with the rewrite of the present laws, that did work but are no longer enforced for whatever reasons. Did the other side really comprehend the content and understand what comprehensive means?.... or is it like the ACA cluster that has to be passed first and then studied?

But wait I get it, every self serving vote counts when re-elections loom.... Well, that's not correct either, non-citizens can not vote,...or so they say….. but they may know someone who could be pursuaded for some favors later or a few bucks up front.... but then again even deceased, dead people have come back to cast a vote, anything is possible, we just have to keep an open mind to the possibilities and inform ourselves after the fact!
