Gas leak evacuates two buildings

The Medic Ambulance headquarters and a motorsports store were evacuated Tuesday afternoon after a gas pipe broke, Vallejo firefighters said.

The gas line was reported broken at about 2:45 p.m. when someone was posting a fence in front of the ambulance headquarters at 506 Couch St., Battalion Fire Chief Pat Dunn said.

Mach 1 Motorsports and the headquarters were evacuated, except for the dispatch center, and firefighters are monitoring the air quality while waiting for PG&E technicians to arrive, Dunn added.

No one was showing any symptoms of gas poisoning, he added.

Couch Street was closed between Valle Vista Avenue and Redwood Street for about two hours for PG&E technicians to cap the leak, Dunn said.

There was no estimated time of clearance yet.
